Ryle 17 Cooper 10

Cooper's numbers right now would put them as a 4A school not a 5A school.

Are you sure about right now? They are bigger than Scott, Franklin County, East Jessamine, John Hardin, and Warren Central according to last years numbers. Also, it was Borchers( or the old AD) who petitioned to play up into 5A and it looks like a good move now.

I'm at practice now and don't have the official numbers but am counting in the low 40s for players.

Last year I just looked at a roster dor state and there were 12 but realistically with the ones that didn't quit or weren't hurt the entire year they had 8 or 9 maybe.

In contrast I'd be curious how many players are on HHS roster etc. I know Ryle has something like 80 almost twice as much Cooper.

You all can talk about a 5A school should always platoon but you can only play with the ones that come out.

How many schools in the area only have 45 healthy players?

Started the season with 13, ended with 11. One injured, one ineligible.

How many of those 13 were suited to start their first year of Varsity?

I wish they all could get a ton of playing time. If having a body to put on the field is the recipe to success then please explain why so many players on teams with 80 or so players on the team still don't see the field through their first couple years on varsity until their senior year, if that.

As I've said several times, things should change in thee next couple years. There are 12 Juniors on the team, not a lot, but there are something like 23 sophomores on the team this year which is nice. I bet they will get at least 20 next year from this years freshman team which is a great foundation..

Next year there will only be around 10-12 seniors, butt should have over 40 or close to 50 Sophomores and Juniors and if they keep a pace of around 20 per year that will mean they will have 60+ players in 2 years.

Out of that 60 you should be able to get at least 18 or so very good starters and I wouldn't be surprised to see a platoon system start to take place.

Never said any of them were. You keep saying there were only 6 sophomores on the roster last year. That is incorrect.

My mistake.

I counted on Maxpreps right now we have over 50 on the roster, yet at practice I only counted 40 something which tells me either some have left the team or are out with injuries. We are getting up there in numbers which is nice to see.

I am betting we will have close to 70 players if not higher in 2 years.

Platooning is great, but what some people fail to realize you still need the athletes to platoon. Until you get the players (and I'm not talking numbers) coaches choose not to platoon and I fully understand.

I think overall school numbers would put them there. I could be very wrong though.

Someone put the numbers up in another thread and Cooper's boys enrollment puts them in 5A

Cooper had 586 males last year, 53 above the projected smallest 5A school which would be CovCath. There are 13 schools that would be in 5A that are smaller than them. So that's a no on them falling down to 4A.

You can count all the numbers you want of boys "walking the hallways". Bottom line is this, once Coach Borchers posts the summer practice schedule 80% of said "boys walking the hallways" disappear like Casper the Friendly Ghost. Cooper will most likely continue to be non-platooning team for a few more years to come. Having a large number of boys in the school means nothing if you are not committed and dedicated to "work". Keep in mind this school is only in it's 6th year and while last year's run was more than anyone could have ever imagined that was a special group of which that put in the work and everyone knew this year's team had an up hill challenge ahead of them.

I fully expect this year's group, and next year's for that matter, to compete but achieving that benchmark of last year may not come until two more years from now when the sophomores and freshman are seniors and juniors. The middle school program is in it's 3rd year and there will be some residual benefit of for those players who are running the same system that the varsity is running at an early age as well.

This year's team is young, inexperienced and frankly only 3 players, that started or played significantly last year, are playing/starting in the same postion as last year. Not an excuse as it is what it is but you can't replace experience at the flip of a switch. The young one's will get baptized quickly.

It's the oldest cliche in the book but is very true when it comes to football. "If it were easy, everyone would do it."

Exactly! Different generation of kids nowadays.

Couldn't of said it better.
