Should everyone have a Prenup?

If my wife was to file for divorce right now, I wouldn't contest a thing. If she wanted everything, she could have it. I have one child who would have 3 years remaining to be on child support, and he'd run away to live with me anyway to be honest, even she'd admit that. Our life has become so intertwined it's one anyway. To separate it would be a mess, no different than if one of us passes away. I can say without reservation, that no matter the circumstance she could have it all if it happened. It's just money and stuff when you boil it all down. We are a society of stuff. George Carlin was spot on.

I am a carbon copy of this post. I'd let my wife have it all. Our biggest argument would be over the dogs.

Actually, all of that is a lie. We'd go to court over all the food & beer in our pantry/refrigerator.

Fixed it for you.

I do not have one but I feel every couple should have some variation of one.

It would never fly but I genuinely believe marriages should work like sport's contracts. Hear me out. You sign on for a five year deal and at the end of the deal you have the option to re-negotiate or part ways. If it is a shaky marriage all ready maybe you only sign on for two more years with the hopes of working it out. If not you can go your separate ways and find another partner. I think people would be willing to hang around for a few more months as opposed to the messy divorce if they know an end is in sight.

You're right, I see very few people ever being willing to do this. But I like the idea.

You're my hero.

"So, FKYW would you like to go on a date?"

"Not now, but when my contract runs out I plan to have 'meetings' with several teams before I decide where to spend my next 5 years..."

You're my hero.

Sorry but I am taken already. Bobby Bonilla type deal ;)

That's all fine and good, until kids come along. Difficult to negotiate that one without and arbitrator.

It makes perfect sense, right? It would eliminate the really hard feelings at the end of a marriage knowing it was mutual.

Which is essentially what we do right now. However, with this one there can some mutual discussion go on prior to the contract ending as to custodial rights. Each kid would probably force an automatic renegotiate. We are still in the beginning stages of this idea. :D

If one part wants out of a contract prior to it ending then they suffer the penalty. Maybe that is a loss of custodial rights or the house, etc. I think it would actually force couples to try and work things as out as opposed to just taking the easy way out and filing for divorce.

Does this mean girls would start posting pictures on Facebook of their "signing day dress"?

Even better, I would love to see people congratulate each other on "renewing".

Yes. See, this is also good for the economy. More opportunities to line the wallets of Hallmark.

I'd be more interested in their "Free Agency" outfit.
