I'm not exactly sure, but that in certain cases that may fall under the category of specific circumstances where a prenup is allowed by the Catholic Church.

 

However, if that businessman is using a prenup to protect his marital assets from being seized through suit, couldn't he in turn use that prenup to protect his business assets from being seized through suit from a bitter wife who has been cheated on and is divorcing him?

 

In the case of infidelity, all assets should be fair game regardless.

I think this is hard for you to give an objective opinion on because you are in a happy, strong marriage. We all should be so lucky.

 

I would bet money that if things starting going downhill and you and your bride were at each others throats for a couple of years and then she filed for divorce you would feel much much different.

 

I might. But at my age, I'd be more inclined to say "whatever". I can go make more money. My profession is recyclable. I'd be more inclined to go somewhere out west, work 3 days a week, fish and shoot stuff the rest of the days. Live meagerly enough that I could make ends meet, have little or no "stuff" beyond my recreational desires and a roof over my head and a running, functional truck.

I'd say none. Point being if it's more than likely going to end in divorce the terms of the divorce should be outlined ahead of time.

I will be honest that it is something that I've thought long and hard about. Not because I have so much money saved up, but because I'm basically debt free thankfully and just about any girl I've dated that isn't the case. Sucks to think about marriage as a financial decision more than the "romantic" side of things. Not sure what that says about me and the thoughts of love these days, maybe just growing up.

 

I think you would be a fool not to have a prenup.
