I think South Warren would be considered a fringe team in 4A, which would be their proper class at this point. Obviously it is much more to their advantage to be competing in 3A. I believe this year is a "strike while the iron is hot" type of year for South Warren. This class is the one they've been building towards and with the enrollment advantage on top of it, they need to capitalize.

 

I remember when Mercer County won a state championship. It was right after a merger with Harrodsburg. Their enrollment was much larger than the class they were playing in. They took advantage as I think South Warren is trying to do. Get it while you can.

^^Harlan County did for a year as well in their first year of '08, playing in 3A then were moved up to 5A in '09. They are always forgotten about for some reason.

Wayne needs a signature win. They must beat Bell IMO.

Bourbon County and Wayne County need to be higher. Bath County lost the majority of their players from last year

Thusfar the answer is a resounding 'NO".

 

With that said, 3A is one of the very few classes that has actually started to "play up" to their competition level in light of a dominant team at the top. Central has improved to one of the Top 6 or 7 teams in the State regardless of class as they now routinely beat 6A Louisville schools that they used to lose to... but despite this... several programs have seemingly closed the gap on Central where they once were over matched. Last year is a prime example as Central was pushed to the Final possession in each of their last four playoff games.

 

I have said it before, and will say it again, Ty Scroggins is the most underrated coach in KY HS Football. The job he has done at Central is remarkable.

Can you really say that based on the one game? Wayne had a far superior record, played better against similar opponents, and gave Central all they wanted. In the game between the two, just looking at stats, Wayne had over 100 more yards of offense and a lot more turnovers.

Neither team could consistently move the ball on the ground against the other team's defense. Wayne scored 2 TD's on 3rd and long when Corbin's sophomore CB bit on a pump fake, which resulted in approximately half of Wayne Co.'s total yardage, with each being around 75 yard scoring plays.

 

Wayne Co. was a little better, mainly because they had a much better passing game than Corbin, and if the Redhounds don't improve in that area, Wayne Co. will be better again. I'm confident that Corbin's pass defense will be much better, which will help eliminate the big plays that killed them in several losses last year.

I will defer to your judgment since I wasn't there. However the overall look at the results of the season show Wayne played Bell a lot closer (weren't they without a starter as well in that game?) and had a very impressive performance vs. Central that trumps the deal IMO.

Yes they did score on a hook and ladder play. Like I said, Corbin did not move the ball well, although they did move it better when they quit giving it to the player that Wayne was keying on.
