Mike Brown: Bengals wary of Hernandez’s character, Gronk’s back

Featured Replies

It's amazing that Mikey Boy had concerns about Gronk's back but not Antonio Bryant's knee...or Andre Smith's foot...or KiJana Carter's knee...or (should I go on?)

You take chances on injuries all the time, based on medical reports. With Hernanadez, he had a clear disposition for violence and Mike chose to take him off the board. Good for Mike and the Bengals.

Interesting though that Reggie Nelson got a pass and Hernandez did not. Must be a thin line between shooting someone (or more than one) and being in the car when the shots were fired.

He's opportunistic at best, in he end he's full of it.

So he gets a hypocrisy pass because its okay to sign guys with character issues because he cannot get better players, but yet not draft guys with character issues?

That doesn't make sense. There are plants of guys in the nfl without issues.

What your saying is talent overcomes character issues, which I don't disagree with, but if that's the case then he shouldn't claim to be some morally high guy who looks at the character of players and then passes because its not true.

He was asked a question and answered it honestly. You make it sound like he held a press conference to address the issue without being asked and started talking about how he wouldn't do these things. He was asked a question about it and he answered it. How would you have wanted him to answer it? Did you want him to go in depth like I did on why they crossed him off? Come man there are a lot of things to complain about when it comes to Mike Brown, but this is not one. It was an simple answer to a question, an answer that was probably true for the reasons I already stated. They probably did cross him off because there were plenty of TE's of equal or great value in the draft that they knew they could get like Gresham.

The way he answered it was wrong. He said we passed on him because I character issues, etc. he made it sound like they draft, sign, morally sound players which they do not. Not sure why people don't see that.

He didn't say we don't take people with character issues. He said we wouldn't take this one guy because of character issues. Not sure why people don't see that.

You don't know that he answered it honestly.

Your right I left out the part about saying I believe he answered it honestly. Even though it seems to be common sense to me. It was not like Hernandez was this can't miss pick, honestly a lot people also questioned his size for the TE spot. So with the draft being so deep in TE's that year, and with his talent really not seperating him from the rest. Then its not hard to see that yes it would be easy to cross him off because of his character issues. In other cases in the past when Bengals took chances on players, those players with character issues had more talent or came at a cheaper price than someone with less talent and could cost more. So yes seems like common sense to me that he did answer this one honestly, because there was no reason not to cross him since there were so many TE's and they had the first crack at one in the 1st round.
