July 1, 201313 yr How does she distance herself from Obama and his policies in a state where he is very unpopular?
July 1, 201313 yr I have to really watch what I say in this thread, actually don't think I'll say too much on any involving this race. But it is no secret that Grimes did not orginally support Pres. Obama during the 2008 race. But, I like how All Tell worded his comment: "How does she distance herself from Obama". So, what do people see that Grimes needs to do and say to have a chance to win? Besides support coal and or jobs in EKY, and the 2nd Amendment?
July 1, 201313 yr Needs to paint herself as a Reagan Democrat...by that I mean she needs to make sure that Kentucky knows her values are aligned with the majority of the state. You can easily be a Democrat and be Conservative at the same time. I think she does better by agreeing more with Mitch than against him. Needs to show what the key difference in her and Mitch is, whatever that is and pound it home. If she runs hard to the left then I think she will be beat. Also: Don't let silliness and petty points define you campaign, stay above the stuff the far right and left will try to pull you into.
July 2, 201313 yr A worthy opponent, should make for an entertaining campaign. Saw where someone said it will be the nastiest race in the country. Fasten your seat belts.
July 2, 201313 yr A worthy opponent, should make for an entertaining campaign. Saw where someone said it will be the nastiest race in the country. Fasten your seat belts. Do you think she will win or just make him sweat a little?
July 2, 201313 yr Do you think she will win or just make him sweat a little? Pretty sure I saw a poll in May that had the two statistically tied. She'll have to raise money to win. She's not going to outspend Mitch, but she has to be able to put up a fight. The battle is uphill for Grimes, but it's not an impossible climb. She at least makes him sweat.
July 2, 201313 yr Do you think she will win or just make him sweat a little? I think she'll just make him sweat. A lot. However, I wouldn't be shocked if she pulls it out. The National Democrats hate Mitch and want his seat, bad. She will have plenty of money at her disposal. It's going to come down to Mitch's unpopularity vs Obama's unpopularity. It will not be about Grimes at all.
July 2, 201313 yr It seems Mitch's position on many subjects are inline with the average Kentuckian, his problem is that he is not a very likeable person. The best strategy for Grimes may be to attack Mitch the person not his positions and try to show herself as being as moderate as possible. I would be very surprised if she wins but not shocked.
July 2, 201313 yr Do you think she will win or just make him sweat a little? In the end she will make him sweat. From my experience with Alison she is a really cool person. Haven't looked into her politics much but this will get me to. If it's just between her and Mitch it won't take much for me to vote for her, but if a Libertarian candidate comes in my vote is likely to go there.
July 2, 201313 yr I am not Grimes biggest fan, and its ashame that she is the best KY can put up to ditch Mitch. Unfortunately Mitch will probably win, not because he is liked in KY, but because there is still a good percentage of votes that vote the whole ticket, and they are mostly republican, helping Mitch to win.
July 2, 201313 yr I didn't realize her father was such an influential figure in the KY Democratic party, which should help her in terms of fund raising. Her family also has long-standing ties with President Clinton, which should also help her chances.

July 2, 201313 yr at what getting a new blue dress? :lol2: Fund raising. And Clinton won Kentucky twice.
July 2, 201313 yr Money will not be a problem for her. She will stay close in the polls and that will keep the National Democrats funneling money into KY. Mitch would be the Holy Grail of 2014 for them, much like the Republicans would like to get Harry Reid.
