PRP's Greg Laughlin went 11-1, beat Butler in the regional finals, St. Xavier in the state semi-finals and posted the 4th lowest ERA in the history of the KHSAA and was not on the first, second, third, or honorable mention teams. That is unusual, and Woodford County had two pitchers on the first team (which would have made sense last year, but not this year).

 

And then Steven Husband at PRP was named to the honorable mention team, even though he was a periodic pinch runner with less than 10 at bats. Somebody got some jersey numbers and names mixed up.

Sounds like he should have took one of the two PRP's spot on 1st team.

Politics as usual in these "All-Star" teams, it occurs in every sport.

 

Bishop Brossart had their catcher drafted in the MLB draft and not even a sniff of him in any of these teams.

It has come to a point now where these "All State" teams are simply a matter of where a kid plays or for whom he plays. Yes, there are factors involved that parents and fans don't realize (like whether or not a coach or school paid their Coaches Association dues) but to have 3 and 4 kids from one school ON the list while players like those mentioned above are ignored is atrocious. Congrats to all of those who were honored, but there must be a better way folks.

Only 11 kids from Jefferson County out of the 87 kids on the these teams. Is that small number warranted this year or is the system flawed?

All-state teams seem pretty flawed, at least as far as NKy's representation is concerned. I'm not saying that the players chosen aren't very good players but when teams that do not make the regional tourney get 3 of the 5 players named, it doesn't pass the smell test. The other 2 lost in the first round of the regional tourney. IMO team success should carry at least a little weight.

11 kids is a lot more than some other entire area's got.

 

It's just another sports all star teams picked by politics and popularity. I don't tend to put too much weight in them.

The 87 all-state members came from -- 11th Region (15 players); 6th and 10th Regions (8 players each); 7th and 3rd Regions (6 players each); 5th, 9th, 12th, and 16th Regions (5 players each); 1st, 4th and 15th Regions (4 players each); and 2nd, 8th, 13th, and 15th Regions (3 players each).

Schriever, (spelling) only gets honorable mention....seriously? I don't have a dog in this fight, and I'm not a CovCath fan, but the kid is signed with Louisville, the same Louisville team that made it to the College World Series and he only gets honorable mention....a joke at best! Of course lets not forget the Norton kid from BBHS, good enough for the bigs, but not good enough for KY all state....I guess all those kids in front of him were drafted in the 12 rounds prior to him....embarrassing!

Who ever does these does not know what they are doing. Letcher Central won the 14th region without allowing a single run and they don't have a player that gets any nomination for anything? I mean seriously? Estill beat Powell twice (first time Estill beat Powell, Corey Thomas beat Billy Hatmaker) where is Thomas mentioned at? (Second time Estill beat Powell, Jacob Tuttle pitched 6 1/3 or 6 2/3 and struck out twelve allowing like 2 or 3 hits, maybe 4 without allowing a single run) and he's not mentioned? Kameron Conley 8th grader from Hazard who is phenomenal isn't mentioned? Their was a lot of 14th region players that deserved to be nominated on this list too.

This is probably like in softball, if the coach is not a member of the state coaches association, 99.9% chance kids from those teams are not going to get mentioned. Madyson Moran from Holy Cross hits .720, has played for one of the top travel teams in the country the last 4 years, and has a schooly to James Madison (had schooly last year as a junior) and she didn't even make HM why...........her coach is not a member of the state coaches association.

did anyone notice there is not even 1 kid mentioned from our state runner up mercer county.what do they need to do to get some respect?

i realize there are alot of great players in the state but they are the only team in the final 4 that is not represented. they have also been to 3 straight state tournaments not to mention have advanced to the final game two of the last three years. that is pretty good for a small school.

If your school is not a member of the KHSBCA, the coach can't vote and the players for that school aren't eligible for the KHSBCA awards.
