June 14, 201313 yr Since it is the "slow" season I thought I would get your ides on this subject. Not looking for names necessarily and considering High School, College, and Pro, what is the toughest sport to be really good at and why? I realize this is a basketball forum but I figured it had to go somewhere.
June 14, 201313 yr Depends, you can be very athletic and have terrible hand/eye coordination and be awful at baseball, but good at football. Overall, decathlete sticks out to me.

June 14, 201313 yr I'll nominate one that most will overlook....Tennis. It's insane the type of athlete you've gotta be to be able to play that professionally.
June 14, 201313 yr Excellent question. I like the Tennis answer. That is one sport where everyone has to be a good-great athlete.
June 14, 201313 yr Define "athlete". Is just being fast an athlete? Lateral movement? Speed? Quickness? Hand/Eye Coordination? All of the above. When I think athlete, I think size, speed, agility, hand/eye coordination, strength...etc.
June 14, 201313 yr 3 sports come to mind. Decathalon Iron man Triathalon I don't think there is any other sport that tests the body as much as Triatholon or Iron Man competitions. Honorable mention: Couch Potato, I've trained for that most of my life and have it down pretty pat.

Decathalon has to be in the discussion. I'm not sold on the Iron Man and Triathalons. There really isn't a display of agility and power in either of those. Those are two major attributes to overall athleticism.

June 14, 201313 yr I agree on the agility. Go ride a super hilly course then tell me it doesn't take power... That doesn't fall under the definition of power. That's more strength endurance.
June 14, 201313 yr The lower body strength of triathletes or bicycle racers in general is undeniable.
June 14, 201313 yr curling That's right! I mean think of the muscles it takes to sweep the broom that many times and that quickly!
June 14, 201313 yr My vote goes to hockey. Have to have speed on the skates, be able to dish out and receive hits, have excellent hand-eye coordination, plus you have to be able to skate backwards (something I never mastered on roller-blades).
