Obama has to go ASAP

Actually, there have been studies that both Hispanics and Blacks have more Republican viewpoints than Democrat. People forget that this is still very much a conservative country. The deal is that the Hispanics and the Blacks do not vote in force. If the youth vote had been average last November we very well could have had a different result. Getting them energized again by the two leading contenders for the Dems after nothing in Washington really changing, Obamacare kicking in, and dealing with all the scandals just isn't going to happen IMO.

I semi-agree with you on your youth vote analysis. Neither McCain nor Romney stacked up very well vs. Obama among young people -- but would Rubio, for instance, be a different story vs. Hillary? As far as your first assertion -- that Hispanics and blacks have more GOP viewpoints than Democratic -- that's fantasyland.

Democrats will continue to win National elections, as long as, Republicans keep getting in American's bedrooms, slamming religion down people's throats, etc. It isn't the demographics, it is their judgmental attitudes on what individuals do that is against their values. It is the social issues and some of them they may have a valid argument, that bring them down. They have yet to find a way to keep some of their most fundamental Christians from keeping their mouth's shut. This kills them with moderate thinkers. I am a Christian, but respect other religions and others rights to worship freely. But these asinine comments made by a few Republicans just galls me.

Nope, people don't want to admit it but we are still very much a conservative nation, pretty much across all demographics.

I think that would make an interesting thread topic. How is conservative defined here?

The polls I've seen were where people were asked to self declare so there would be a wide range of definitions on those. Other studies were of minorities where they asked opinions on a wide range of policies ranging from conservative to liberal.

Again, I think you're very wrong. The one poll that sticks in my mind said that about 38 percent of Americans define themselves as conservative; 25 percent define themselves as liberal; the rest are in the middle. So while there are more conservatives than liberals, one couldn't describe America today as a conservative nation -- particularly with the decline of organized religion in this country.

Now, do minorities lean to the right on some social issues? No doubt. On the other hand, 50 percent of Roman Catholics voted for Obama in the last election.

It is my firm opinion that national elections are all about demographics. The reason that blacks, Hispanics, Asians, etc. voted overwhelmingly Democratic is that the GOP is perceived as a party of old, angry white men, and nothing has changed since last November.

Still that's an overwhelming edge conservative vs liberal. Odds are the same breakdown would apply to moderates. I believe it's all about youth which is a notoriously unreliable demographic.

To start, we probably have to differentiate between fiscally conservative and socially conservative.

Problem is, the independents are steering away from the GOP, in addition to more minorities/fewer whites voting every year. If you were correct that it's all about the youth vote, then the GOP would not have lost the popular vote in five of the last six presidential elections.

There's a trend at work here, and it isn't benefitting the Republican Party. Which is why the GOP is trying to grab a few more elections through state-by-state voter suppression efforts.

Keep telling yourself those things. I've heard it all before from both sides. God help us all in the remote case you turn out to be correct as it will be the downfall of the USA.

I don't understand what you mean by this.

Remote case? Didn't you read any news stories about the 2012 presidential vote breakdown? I'm not suddenly making this up. Traditional Republicans face two huge problems: (a) changing demographics of the makeup of the American population and (b) the Tea Party, which hangs like a millstone around the neck of every Republican who isn't an extremist.

Like I said, I've heard these death knolls many times before. The democratic party was dead in 1990. The republican party was dead in 1976. Al Gore was going to extend democrat power through 2008. It simply isn't going to happen. The democrats have proven time and time again that they are no better running the country than the republicans. People vote their personal situations and will change their votes when things are not going well and things will never be going well for a large segment of the population. There are the groups at either end of the spectrum who will always vote party lines but the 70% in the middle will change when things don't go well for them. Thinking one party or the other is dead is just wishful thinking.

I don't understand what you mean by this.

One party rule will destroy this country. You have to have balance.
