I don't know anything about Logan County except that they player a whale of a game today. Sometimes it is just not meant to be. Shut down a solid X batting order the whole game. The X pitcher pitched a great game also and can't be overlooked. Heads up bseball by Clemmons and his Coach to be aggressive and score the 2nd run. Maybe the tough schedule helps you get prepared for this kind of game. PRP should be another good game Thursday. Go Tigers!

Unbelievable finish! Logan county pitcher had a no hitter for 7 2/3 innings. Clemons gets X only hit and scores from 2nd on a heads up play on a Logan County error, and the defense falling asleep.

Now if you would have said the kid wasn't paying attention to the coaches instruction or something I could understand that.

Watching on iHigh as well as following on Twitter, the pitchers for both teams pitched great games. Tough for Logan County, that last out in games of this magnitude is always the hardest.

Bases loaded, 2 outs. 1-0 lead for Logan Co. Groundballs to second. He boots it and the ball lands right near him. He doesn't seem in a rush to pick it up and doesn't pay attention to the second runner who never quit running. By the time he realized what was happening his throw was way too late to the plate.

One of the best baseball games I have ever watched (professional, college, high school...). Truly exciting the entire way because of the phenomenal pitching. Melchior gave up 1 hit, Britt gave up 2, and Caleb Bruner for LCHS gives up only 1. Unbelievable! The highpowered St. X offense just could not get going (I feel sorry for PRP on Thursday because that won't happen again) and defense had 3 errors (2 by 2B Purcell). Glad that the season is continuing even when I had convinced myself that it was over with 0-2 count in the bottom of the 8th with 2 outs. Austin Clemons played some backyard baseball on that last play to win the game! Just incredible finish that you had to be there to believe! Logan County should be moving on, but as Melchior said after the game... every pitch matters! And St. X played till the final pitch today!

As posted it was an outstanding game, a game that young Mr. Bruner didn't deserve to lose. Young? Did anybody mention that the young man is a 10th grader all 6'0" and 150 pounds of him!

 

It was a treat watching the young man pitch. Some kids are throwers they try to strike you out by throwing the ball past you faster then you can swing, but Mr. Bruner he is a PITCHER and oh what a Pitcher he was today!

 

He painted the plate, he mixed up his pitches, he threw a fast ball on occasions at around 81, then threw it at 74, then 69, followed by a mean breaking curve at 67 then a change up at around 60. I was in heaven watching a artist created a master piece right in front of my eyes. The St. X players kept fouling off pitches, and seven of them went back to the bench four via swinging at the air while three of them by just not believing the young man could throw it that fast, that slow, or a ball could move so much.

 

The young man was a pitch, just one simple pitch, on a 0 Ball 2 strike count from a no hitter in the first round of the State Tourney, a shutout, a complete game victory, just one pitch from slaying the Goliath of Louisville, one of the favorite in this tourney, just one simple pitch.

 

He threw 130 pitches to complete the game but after the 123 pitch, he made a mistake and HBP the batter. Young Mr. Bruner didn't really lose today, he earned the respect of each college scout in attendance, he earned the respect from the St. X players and coaches, the media and the fans in the stands and when they talk about this game in Logan County five, ten or even fifteen years from now, they will still say, just one pitch, just one simple pitch.

 

Theoldguy tips his hat to you Mr. Bruner! Congrats on such a fine day on the hump and don't you ever think you lost today!

I heard earlier that several of the Logan County players were on a team that made it to Williamsport and the Little League World Series a few years back. I had forgotten about them making it up there. Was Logan County senior-laden or fairly young?

So kind of a mixed bag in terms of classes. The pitcher returning sets them up nicely for next year.

Attending this game today, the money I spent the time keeping book, was all so worth it. Rarely do you get to witness such an event of greatness and yes that is the correct word in this case, that you just sit and take it all in.

 

I was lucky enough on the way out of the stadium to walk past the young man and his family and I thanked him and told him that I really enjoyed his efforts today. He smiled and thanked me for the kind words but I told him, it was I who was glad that I got to thank you today and that it was one of the best pitching performances I have seen in a long, long while!

It all took place in the bottom of the 8th, in that order.

Yes all in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2 outs and the 0-2 count, the HBP, the first single, (at work so don't have my book) but if I remember correctly a walk, then the ground ball to (4) that should have either been a (4-6 fc) or (4-3) to end the game.

 

Can't say how bad I felt for the young man!

Mental errors can beat you the same as physical ones. Logan County played a great game, just couldn't hold on.
