Bellevue - All-TimeTop 3 Players

Featured Replies

Bellevue had some great teams in the late 70's and early 80's. Sutkamp, Sprague, Schreiber are a few names that come to mind when thinking of all time greats. Early 90's had some great players in Hissong, Kiefer, and Hall. 2000's you had Berkley, Adams and Ricky Buckler.

I would go with these 3 and in no particular order.

1.Mike Sutkamp--class of 1982

-All-state in football

-Career rushing 4,963 yards and scored 435 points

-Played in 3 straight state football championship games

-Holds the state record for most rushing attempts in a single season with 487 in '81

2. Jon Sutkamp-Class of 1979- led Tigers to 2 state championships in 77' and 79'. 729 Career carries. Over 4000 yards rushing.

3. Ricky Buckler- 2010 (included in 12 catagories in the KHSAA record books. School records include: Most rushing yards in one season-2851, most rushing yards in one game - 362. 42 most touchdowns in one season -42, 5277 career rushing yards – 5,277, career touchdowns - 81 and career points - 506)

Excellent choices Qryche11.

Good stuff Q. :thumb:

I would flip flop the bros as Jon got his titles and add Andy Schreiber to the list because he was the blocking back for the younger Sutkamp and therefore I would make Andy a tie with Buckler at 3rd spot.

Buckler a stud, with great numbers and deserving but back in the day Bellevue schedule was a little different than todays with a whole lot less classes.

I remember the Sutkamps being nightmares for Beechwood. Finally Jon graduated and we thought we'd get a breather but low and behold here comes Mike.

They were beasts!

I had Andy there at first and then looked up Ricky and didnt realize he had all those stats. You are right, the schedules were way different. Back in the 70's/80's the Tigers had CovCath, Conner, etc on their schedule yearly.

Andy is a good friend of mine, delivers mail in the Fort and yes he paved the way for all of those rushing yards. Tough as nails and a great dude.

Schriebs also was a LB on defense and a BMFer.

I know there are some old school guys that played in the NFL. Maybe Reddog Daughtery (or one of his brothers) played in the NFL. I think there may have been another one or 2 also, but I don't remember them. Before my time.

My List:

Jon Sutkamp

Jack Hurtt

Mike Sutkamp

Anyone?

What about Doug Miller and Steve Crittenden? Were those Darty's really that good?

Both were excellent football players but probably make Top 5 or 6 all time.

I played against a Scott Sprague in the late 60's and he was an amazing runner. One heck of a running back and awesome in track. JD
