They not only beat NDA twice, but beat Campbell 12-2 exactly one month ago yesterday.

 

This was a tight game until the 7th. Campbell jumped out 2-0 in the 2nd inning (I think). Both runs were walked in. Bracken scored 3 runs in either the 3rd or 4th--not sure which. Campbell took a 5-3 lead in the top of the 5th. Rice hit a 2-run homer in that inning & I can't remember how they scored the other run. Then in the top of the 7th the Lady Camels teed off, plating 8 runs, including a Rice 3-run homer. They made Emma work & then hit her as hard as I've ever seen her hit in that 7th inning.

 

As I said before, Bracken County had zero patience at the plate. The Campbell pitcher throwing just 11 pitches to get 6 outs (5th & 6th innings) speaks volumes to me. Especially when the first 2 of those 11 pitches were balls in the dirt.

Campbell really does deserve immense credit. They played really good ball today. I'm not sure if Rice plays CF, but I think she does. She threw out Jordan Wills in Bracken's 3-run inning. Fired an absolute seed to the catcher & Wills is one of Bracken's fastest players. Campbell's shortstop & third baseman also played the glove really well.

I wasn't saying she shouldn't play in the game...I just feel bad when kids have to miss these things due to school sports/activity conflicts...I know my middle DD would shoot me if I went to the game tomorrow instead of her graduation night...luckily, or unluckily, oldest dd is benchwarming fo CC, made the choice an easy one for us....it always gets interesting when you have three girls with three different activities:)

Randy, fill me in on something since my only experience with ladies softball is watching college games on ESPN for the most part. Does one pitcher pitch most of the entire season for teams in high school? Is there worry about arms or pitch counts or pitching consecutive days like in baseball? It just seems like Emma has pitched every game this season,every inning for BC. Does BC even have a number 2 or 3? How many games does a number 1 pitch in a season? Thanks

Some like NDA have 2 good pitchers and they may spilt or come close to splitting the innings in the regular season but my guess is they will only use one from here on out. For the most part no worry about arms or pitch counts but some kids react different than others and yes they can pitch every day. I have seen girls pitch upwards of 4 or 5 games on a hot Sat before, not ideal but it happens.

Plus the windmill is the natural motion of the shoulder so very little wear and tear on the arm. If pitchers have good leg endurance they are good.

Look at some of the best college pitchers, "J" Train, Escobedo, Ricketts, "stocky" ladies with strong legs.

Because kids are not willing to work at it in my opinion. It does not matter if your high school school coach does not know much about pitching in my opinion. You can ask ANY average pitcher how to fix their pitching and they can tell you. For example you throw a pitch high or continually throw it ask them what they need to do. #1 is to shorten their stride. If they are throwing everything low you lengthen your stride. You have to throw everyday. If your child does not do that you can't blame anyone but them. People will disagree with me on this but kids must work at it. Also pitchers need to run everyday to keep their legs in shape. Legs equal power/speed.

 

I bet JMU's daughter does something softball related everyday and it has paid off.

 

*and when I say pitch everyday I mean something pitching related. If that is working on your spins or throwing you have to do something everyday due to muscle memory.

In my day, only one pitcher was necessary. She pitched every game. Backup pitchers learned other positions or sat on the pine. Who is the freshman pitcher who I'm hearing good things about? Saw a few camel fans last week who told me they have a redhead who is a really good pitcher. Do you know her, owen five?
