Where does this guy get his information?

Your off based because the fact a student is an athlete has nothing to do with how much finanical aid they get. When financial aid is given out it is decided by a 3rd party who has no clue who the student is, and that is why what you are saying it outright lies.

You could be Mr.Basketball, but if your parents are well of, you don't get diddly from the private school.

LC gave the privates a black eye by providing financial aid to athletes that was not available to other students.

It should be taken that the black eye should only be on LC but unfortunately it won't. Someone will say, they all do it. And to the privates unfortunate situation, how do they prove they don't. Anything they show in the books will be looked at as "Well of course, they are going to show the secret financial aid."

They were Catholic. Their high school did not offer football. A guy who was like a big brother and from that school came over to HC to coach and brought some kids who looked over with him.

So they attended a private school in NKY? Have you ever heard of Elder, St. X, McNick, Lasalle, any other GCL school.

You said it perfect. They came to play football and came with a coach! That is a problem.

That's fine....but that's not what Prop 20, or any of the compromises is addressing. Those were other proposals on the table that should have, in my opinion, been voted upon first. If those proposals had been passed, then there would have been no need whatsoever for Prop 20.

The fact that the decision was made to skip addressing single issues, and address the most drastic proposal on the agenda first is telling to me. It tells me that there's no interest in resolving issues. There's only an interest in eliminating private schools from post season competition with public schools.

I believe publics feel they have tried to address and resolve these issues over the past 4-5 years and have been dismissed. So, they have taken the stand, you haven't wanted to address or resolve these issues when we have brought them up in the past, well we are tired of bringing them up only to be dismissed. And thus, the Prop 20 vote.

This has been a hot issue for the publics long before October.

Oh, believe me...I'm well aware of how long this has been an issue.

Now....tell me again....exactly why were the proposals dealing with individual issues not addressed? It's not like they would have been able to have been voted down by the PRIVATE school vote. We simply don't have enough votes to out-vote the public schools. I guess that some of those INDIVIDUAL issues MIGHT hurt some PUBLIC schools.....Therefore....let's let them alone, and we'll just go after the Private schools. Spin it any way you want, but there's absolutely no way a proposal that ALL publics, or even the majority, wanted passed would not have passed despite the private schools' best attempts. That goes for this year and years past.

Prop 20 was a Red Flag that something needed to be looked at an looked at seriously. I would challenge anyone that would say that a split is the best scenario for our state. The KHSAA would not be looking at any issues if it were not for Prop 20.

Also, isn't prop 20 dead? I thought the paper said that.

It's not dead. No matter what "compromise" is reached, it will come back, and I believe it will continue to come back up until the public schools get what they want. And what I feel they want is to reach an agreement whereby they continue with no compromise, while the privates must compromise everything....until they are eliminated.

Excellent points.

I am not sure of the individual proposals in the past so cannot accurately comment on them.

I do believe the move to vote on Prop 20 was a shrewd move no matter how you view the issue. The other issues are voted on and some are passed and you see a defeat of Prop 20. You vote no on Prop 20 first and you have no guarantee of any of the other props being passed.

I truly believe some schools went in there not intending to vote yes on Prop 20, but when the vote was restructured, their votes changed.

Well the courts say that public schools must teach Evolution. And is that not the "survival of the strongest" mentality. :D

Actually it was available to all students. The problem was that the application process did not go through a clearinghouse.

Well, I look for the private schools to find a way to survive, no matter what. Heck they found a way to survive BEFORE they were successfull athletically, and heck.....Private schools are FAR superior in resourcefulness, if you think about it! :D

I look for a new song to come of this....ripping off Gloria Gaynor, of course! :D

I have gotten to the point that I hope it passes. I will then sit back and laugh when the same PUBLIC schools win year in and year out!!

Meanwhile the T & X's will continue to win Football Championships and FINALLY some basketball championships too!!!

Per the courier journal:

In the letter, the KHSAA cited at least nine instances of LexCath awarding financial aid to students in violation of Bylaw 10, Section 2©, which forbids providing financial aid scholarships or other material rewards to athletes for which other students are not eligible

In the letter, DeVries said that violated KHSAA rules because the scholarship wasn't made available to the entire student body. Two other students were awarded financial aid from this fund, the letter said, but were not athletes.

And...? I can't help it that the article has two sentences in the same paragraph that say two different things.

If it went through the clearinghouse, it would not have been against the rules.

You could be right! Open enrollment is a problem also. I think we need a salary cap so we can have more parity!!! Oh this is High School, not the NFL!!! ;)

True. The fact is that this fund was set aside and not through the clearing house. If I were a parent at Lex Cath, I would be mad that these 3 kids got money from this fund that my kid was not eligible for.
