Billy G kicked John Wall out of practice

Featured Replies

At face value, a coach is obviously well within his rights to do this. But Billy Gs total body of work is what makes me a little skeptical of anything he does.

Could you imagine if he was still at UK?

Yeah, we would be in the NIT..... Oh, wait, lol.

Don't really see a problem with that...

I don't either. I don't care where you are, a practice, church, or movies, people that don't turn their phones to vibrate should be kicked out! No second chances, and it will make them and the others know that you best turn off your phone in these places. People want to trash Billy G as much as they can, just as they did with Tubby, and he is long gone, but etiquette has gone out the window, people should know better! When I had the opporunity to attend UK practices, just as I do when I enter church and the movies, I turn the phone either off or on vibrate, not only to do the proper thing and possibly disrupt people, but to avoid the embarrassment of it going off.

If I had to choose a crazy BCG or a John Wall with a ringing phone, I'll take the guy that puts the ball in the basket.

If you don't have the discipline to turn your cell phone off at a practice where you are a GUEST, then I may not want you on my team anyway... JMO.

I guess you have never been in a situation where you forgot to turn your phone off or put on silence? I have done it before and not noticed it until after the meeting I was in and was then happy I did not receive any calls.

You're right. See it happen all the time.

Anyone that has a phone has forgot to silence it in a meeting, at church, at the movies or somewhere where it would be inappropriate for it to go off. If you want to see something funny go sit in your local district court and wait for a phone to go off...the judges head will spin 3 or 4 times and in most cases they will lose their mind. Saw a prosecutor lose his phone for 24 hours once because it went off in court.

I worked at Proctor and Gamble in finance or a time. I was in an audit meeting with my supervisor when my phone went off. I should have put the phone on silent. I forgot. My boss, a man in his 50's, looked at me as I was fumbling around trying to shut it off (my ringtone at the time was Chain Hang Low by Chingy...grrr!) and he said, strait faced, " that's my jam- let it bump!" The awkward silence from my mistake was replaced with a comfort- my boss understood I was human, and as such, I will make mistakes. He could have pulled a Billy G, but what would that have taught me? What lesson was Billy G trying to impart in that moment with a young kid that was not even a part of his program? I guess I don't see the need for the reaction, if that is a true story. Billy G demonstrated, regularly, that he was flawed. Is a kid not entitled to make a mistake? Are you a coach, a teacher? Teach a lesson without the public chastising. It is possible.

I guarantee that John Calipari would have handled the situation differently- maybe that s why he has the respect and loyalty from his players even once they have left the program. Maybe the mindset that Billy G fostered with that move is why he isn't coaching right now and has never garnered that level of loyalty.

JMO.

Nope, sure haven't. Because it's really not that hard to remember to silence your cell phone in the appropriate places.

You certainly are better at remembering than me.

Maybe, maybe not. I just feel like in a situation such as that I would be aware of my surroundings, and my cell phone. It's not like he forgot he had it on him.
