Basketball season for 2013/2014 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Augusta? Remember, please be constructive.

will be a very tough out! Bach is a tremendous scorer and other players are great playing off him. They all know their roles. Biggest need is to quickly find a replacement for Kelsch. He was their leader and best rebounder. Also, a SUPER Great kid! Will miss watching him play.

Size will be their only issue. They have some great athletes. Solid shooters and an "in your face" well coached defense.

TAC stated what we can expect from Augusta pretty well IMO. The big loss is #2 scorer Tanner Kelsch, a player Coach Hinson will have a really hard time replacing. Aside from being the team's second best player, he did a little bit of everything. While I am expecting big things from Augusta this season, I'm a little leery when it comes to placing them in the top two or three teams in the region--at least for right now. I think a lot of people underestimate everything Kelsch brought to the table.

 

Having said that, there is potential for a season of historical proportions. Of course, Brent Bach returns with his near 27 ppg. A bunch of sophomores--Connor Maddox, Camryn Snapp & Owens Crawford--all started at season's end last year & will be expected to shoulder even more of a load this year. Maddox was a lights-out shooter in the post-season, but I am keeping the closest eye on Snapp. I feel like he has the most ability to be for this year's squad what Tanner Kelsch was to last year's. Senior-to-be Dustin Freeman, who didn't play in the postseason because of injury, also returns. I'm guessing that will be your starting five: Bach, Crawford, Maddox, Freeman & Snapp. Four guards & a forward.

 

Panthers are beefing up their schedule, which is exciting. Playing in the Lex. Cath tournament, the Murph Classic at Mason County, & taking on Dunbar at Lafayette. Probably some other quality opponents that I'm not aware of yet. Should be an exciting season for the folks in Augusta.

Are those three players sophomores-to-be? If I recall, Augusta had three freshmen who contributed this season.

It's awesome that Augusta will get more state-wide exposure with their upgraded schedule. I think Bach is at least a top 25 player in the state, and probably isn't too far from the top 10, and it'll be nice that people outside the region will have the opportunity to see him play.

 

They should be a lot of fun to watch this year.

This will be a very exciting season for Augusta and very possibly a historic one, I for one can`t wait for it to start,plan on being at every game,since I`ll have an important senior on team.

Thought they strenghthened their schedule quite a bit from past years playing Boone, Iroquois,Cooper,Dixie,Campbell,Montgomery,Harrison,Brossart,Pendleton,and Rowan.

We're very hopeful that Brent's playing with the Louisville Magic this Summer will be great for his development and he just turned 17 so we're also hopeful his height (his older brother is about 6'4" and didn't grow until his Senior year) and strength catch up as well. Our Magic practices are a "Who's Who" of KY 2014 basketball and the practices are as intense and competitive as any college practice. I know Cam Snapp is playing with the Legends and he's developing every day as well. Hopefully he will also grow and gain strength. No body works harder than Connor Maddox and Owens Crawford has as high a basketball IQ as anyone out there. Freeman returns and hopefully his season ending injury has no lingering effects. Tanner Kelsch can't be replaced because I've really never seen anyone of his size and stature be as effective as he was at so many facets of the game. We do have a couple of Sophomores that are about 6'5" that didn't play much last year and my hope is they will work harder than anyone to develop because that's what we need so badly (size). Other than that, and of course from a biased parent perspective, we'll be as good as anyone. It's just such a feat for us to be in the conversation.

 

On a lighter note, if anyone has a 6"6" phenom looking for a home, "man have we got a deal for you". LOL come on Goldy, you gotta have a few extra's walking the halls at GRC.
