I know Clyde and I have had our battles on the talent level of Drew McDonald but curious to know what Clyde and Walter think as to where McDonald will end up at the college level?

You were closer to right than I was in hindsight. He got better down low. I'd think ASun/OVC would be a good level for him.

I don't want to predict where he can play but the kid can play. I have him in an open gym/workout session every Tues and Thurs and Drew gets buckets from everywhere on the court and has been doing it against guys his size with more athleticism. The past two weeks he has been going against a 6'6 guy that plays overseas and playing very well.

His face up game is improving and he is stronger than people realize. Very good at getting position and not being pushed off the block with his back to the basket.

His only flaw is athleticism as I see smaller guards get rebounds over him pretty regularly. He is slimming down though and looks to be in great shape so I'm sure the athleticism will improve. He can play somewhere at the D1 level...no doubt about it.

He also looks like he has gotten a little taller. Not sure if It's because he is losing weight or what, but he is definetly growing in to his body and losing the baby fat.

Walter this is a great come back on McDonald you hit it right on the button the kid makes shots. Been watching Drew play now for a long time and the kid pints the ball in the basket. Love the kid and his parents. Newcath is lucky to have McDonald and the Pangallo kid. I heard from sources that if the Pangallo kid wasn't playing baseball that the Travalers were going to pick him on the 16u team don't know if that was true or not. Both these kids play aau with my son and both parents coach my son learn a lot from these two. Great Family's

Haven't had a chance to meet Drew's parents but he is a good kid, as is Pangallo. Always enjoy talking to Chris.

I have been a big fan of McDonald's over the past few years on this site. The sky is the limit for this young man and his game.

The ASun/OVC would kill to have him and his skillset in their conference.

It is going to be up to Drew as I am sure he will have PLENTY of additional offers coming his way over the next year or two. He'll be able to choose the school that is the best fit for him and not a lot of athletes get that oppurtunity.

If he wants to go to a bigger school/conference I am sure he'll have that oppurtunity.

Keep up the hard work Drew!

What does this mean? Do you organize this?

Drew attends open gyms every week in Cincinnati that Sherwin Anderson runs and I help organize as far as getting nky players over there goes.

He looked really good again tonight. His mid range game is almost automatic and he was absolutely going to work on the guy that plays overseas. He is very tough around the rim and has great footwork.

He really stepped it up defensively tonight as well blocking multiple shots, as well as altering them with his presence. Easily the best player in the gym and honestly I'm not sure it was close.

Ethan Snapp, Paul Price, Dom Johnson (Newport kids), Markel McClendon, Steffan Green, Armani Housely, Keyontae Herndon (Holmes kids), Ben Weyer, Jake Smith, Jake Schulte (Newcath), and Spencer Holland of Cooper are some of the other nky kids who attend or will be attending these sessions as well.

Some pro guys and some of the better Cincinnati talent are the others who are there.

I do love this kids game. He has great hands and makes the bucket. He knows how to finish very well. I watched his highlight tape from the Travelers and the downside I noticed is how far below the basket he plays. He does not elevate well. For his size he will need to increase his hops to play at a decent D1 level. My guess is he is already working on it.

Good luck to the soph.

I've always been confused by the term "open gym." These workouts seem to be by invitation or selection, which I guess could be considered "open" in the sense that it's not restricted to one school. How did this particular group of NoKY players end up at this particular workout?

Maybe but if you knew Sherwin.....he will take anybody's money, trust me. If you show up and you have money he will work you out.
