LexCath 58 CovCath 54

Not a pretty game. LexCath built a 13 point lead in the first half but CovCath whittled it down to only 9 at the half. CovCath controlled the third period and surpassed the Knights with a good press and excellent half court defense. The Knights turned the ball over numerous times and CovCath led at the end of three quarters by 4 points. The fourth quarter was the worst with both teams committing a lot of fouls and neither team leading by more than 4. LexCath eventually caught the Colonels with a two pointer by Novosel. The final four points were made by Hewitt, a pair of free throws and a layup at the buzzer. Hewitt led the Knights with 21 points. The fourth quarter was mostly fouls and free throws.

So did Burbage not take his recruiting visit?

I listened online to the first half and about 30 seconds into the 2nd qtr, CCH had amassed 10 turnovers. LC's press was giving them fits which is surprising when you consider CCH plays 3 guards.

In the few seconds I listened to the game, the CCH radio guys said it was the sloppiest they had seen CCH in many years.

I listened to the last minute of the archived broadcast and here's a recap:

0:53 54-54 Tim T gets fouled - missed both free throws

0:25 LC shoots a 3 misses, offensive rebound, shot missed again, another offensive rebound, fouled on putback - makes 2 56-54 LC

0:07 TJ misses a jumper in the lane

ballgame

LC:

24/47 from the field (3/15 from 3) 7/13 from the line 24 TOs 13 STEALS (wow)

Hewitt had 24 pts

CCH:

20/43 from the field(6/16 from 3) 8/14 from the line 24 TOs(I think)

Noll 18 pts

TJ 17 pts

Bovard 11 pts

Tim T 2 pts

Looks like a rough one for Tierney.

Fatigue may become an issue. He played 30 minutes and TJ sat out for only 47 seconds.

If the stats I heard are correct (or anywhere near correct), CCH had 37 possessions where they gave it back without getting off a shot - 24 TOs and 13 steals by LC.

How'd Covcath's big men do tonight??

Stick had 2. I think Cahill had 2.

Noll had 18.

It sounds like the lineup for the majority, if not all, of the 2nd half was TJ, Tim T, Bo, Joe Landrum, and Noll.

Are Billy Schult, Cahill and Young just not being effective or what?

4 guard for all of the second half. Cahill and Schult got 0 minutes in the 2nd half, Young got maybe 3 minutes. IMO not much of difference from first to second half except that in the first half DNOLL, Bo, and Landrum couldn't hit a shot and couldn't miss in the 2nd half. Both teams had almost equal numbers in turnovers and rebounds (all around 25)

Combination. I once heard someone say that CovCath is the only high school in the country where height is a disadvantage. Coach L loves guards, but on the other hand Schult won't shoot, Cahill is too thin to be a force, and Young hasn't been hitting his low post moves. And Dnoll is playing his best ball in his life.

Big Nate looked awesome the first half. Had to leave, didn't see the second half.
