Smith is a decent shooter, but he isn't the best shooter Scott has on Varsity.

 

Let me ask you this question, I think Coach Carr knows talent and if Dixon and Smith are as good as you say, wouldn't he play them more than a minute or two, but he doesn't does he. This should answer your question.

 

I sure didn't see all this talent while watching the Scott varsity or JV several times this year?? Gotta think Carr would be playing Dixon, Smith, Felts, Castlemann, and Miller more if he thought they gave his team a better chance to win than Whitehead and Sharp?? IMO Sharp makes that team go on offense, and had to be sorely missed in the Campbell game. Hopefully the Eagles can put all this behind them and finish strong!! Could Carr have been holding back in this one, knowing the district game was for the regionals??

Dixon??? Too many turnovers and can't score. Ball handling is definitely not his strength. Only true point guard on the bench is Castleman and he doesn't seem to be playing with any confidence.

 

The real question is when is Smith going top get an opportunity? Has been their best player on the JV level all year.

I know none of the first five starters are better on ball defenders than Dixon....they give up 60 plus every game, Zimmerman on the jv team may be better.....Smith and Dixon should play more than Felts..Felts is a great role player but the other two bring you good D and Smith is a better shooter...I know coach car knows talent i hope every coach that is a head coach knows talent.. I just believe Scott may have a better team next year but when Mccord is off and not rebounding why not play Smith, see this isnt a knock on anyone i state my opinions like you do yours it just seems you get smart sometimes on here when someone else makes a statement your first to jump on them and say "he will not play GUARUNTEED" why cant it be "well dixon is a nice player may not be ready yet". That would have been a better way to state that, Not "He Will not play Gaurunteed" you dont know that....Im not being hateful or mean just for the better of kids who get on here and check out BGP... I dont think Dixon would have appriciated that comment that could hurt a kid and he is on the team that your root for..... It happened last year on here with ND and Pizza..... ripping a young kid from Scott...

So what I'm hearing from some of you all is that Dixon and Zimmerman are Scott's best on ball defenders and that Smith is the best shooter on the team. Don't all three of these guys start JV? If they are asgood as you all say, then they should have a winning record?

You bring up how good some players are and that they deserve all this playing time on varsity and then you think no one is supposed to come back and give their opinions as to why they disagree with you. Give me a break.

 

If you don't like my comments, to bad. You don't have to like them. I tell it as I see it, as do many other people on here do the same.

 

From now on if you think someone is so good and should be getting more playing time, take your suggestions to the coach. :mad:

I was at the game and there was a fair amount of mugging going on by both teams. Scott did their share of grabbing, pushing, shoving and elbowing without getting caught as well. As far as the officiating, I have been in the 10th region for many years and that is the way the games are called. It's not the 9th region where you breath on somebody and they call a foul. Get used to it, your not in the 9th anymore.

 

 

And the above statement to me at least is why the KSHAA should have more control over officials (monitoring, training, enforcement etc). The rules are the same in Eastern, Western, Central or Northern Kentucky, but as we all know the games are called differently in each section heck in each Region. It shouldn't be "get used to it, your not in the 9th anymore". The rule book is the same so the fouls should be called the same. What I am not saying is that the tenth is right or the ninth is wrong but that the rules should be followed.

 

The toughest job for a High School Coach if he/she makes it to the Sweet Sixteen is to understand that his/her team will have to play based on what regions officials’ do the game, because of how each differently each enforces the rules.

not at all. But he wouldn't be able to get open to shoot the ball, and un like McCord he wouldnt be able to shoot over them.

Well, if you don't adjust to the way officials are calling the game, your going to be in for a long night. Did you ever think one of the reasons the 9th doesn't do well in the Sweet Sixteen is because the rest of the state is used to the more physical play allowed by the other officals outside the ninth? Maybe the 9th Region Officials should get the hint and adjust their style more like the rest of the state. Right or wrong, the Ninth Region shouldn't have that disadvantage every year when they go to Rupp.

It has been this way for over 30 years. The 9th region officals are not going to change until the coaches start communicating with them about how they call the game.

This statement was true 20 years ago, even 15 years ago, but not anymore. Ninth region refs have totally changed the way they call the game in the last 10 years. They allow as much physical play and hand-to-hand combat as any area in the state now (too much if you ask me). They still protect shooters though, and overall the ninth region has one of the best groups of the officials in the state. Maybe not as good as the top Bluegrass Association guys, but better depth.
