No offense hoss ... but it is significantly harder to keep a successful program at the highest level for an extended period of time ... as opposed to having minimal expectations and over delivering.

 

I love the attitude that historically successful programs have it so much easier than other teams.

It really is kind of clueless ....

We have lost in the semi-finals the past 4 seasons ... (most teams would pay for that type of success) ... and people can't wrap their mind around that ...

 

Do we work harder than everyone else? I would say that we work significantly harder than the overwhelming majority.

We certainly don't twiddle our thumbs everyday.

To end .. regardless of what you think ... the grass is NEVER greener on the other side.

Not getting it done? I would love a key to a porsche. I just don't think you get it. Again, being from NKY, the best football region in the state, I agree with you about better teams, but I don't think you have CLUE what you are dealing with in WKY. I just don't. IF you did you would say "dang, it's a miracle".

Fair enough ... but ... to answer your question: Some coaches would definitely create the same of type great success. Some wouldn't.

Example: Mayfield (not a coach from a different part of the state .. but the example still holds true .. especially when you consider that 5-6 years ago .. people were ready to push Coach Joe right on out of Mayfield.

 

With that said .. use your question in reverse .. there are many from the western part of the state who could come to NKY .. and be as successful ... or more successful. There are also some that were great in WKY .. but wouldn't cut it up here.

 

To some it up ... I respect your opinion .. and I would buy some of it.

But at the end of the day ... I feel like great coaches have a better chance at being successful everywhere .. but it still takes good chemistry for the team and staff.

 

And most importantly ... it has very little to do with geography. (Boyle County/Chuck Smith is a great example.

I feel your pain. When you got a program that has won over 10 state titles as posed to a team that has been to the show 4 times in school history with no rings or even a school that hasn't been to the show. That is what I'm refering to, but if you say it's a 69 corvette and it takes alot of $$$ effort/ and time to keep it running then you are right. You are there, I'm not.

So when I bring up a point for reasons down here, you don't agree. Have you coached down here? If so, then smack my face and call me Sally. Until then, if you don't have a clue then don't say it's the same everywhere.

Yes, I believe successful coaches can win anywhere. It is about having vision and being a leader that people want to follow. You get one of these highly successful coaches in any program and they will have success.

Mayfield has alot of coaches in building and tradition, as does Beechwood. I'm going to ask you the same questions.

I know a guy that has a TON of vision, gets alot out of mediocre kids, but has no admin help.

First question: Trinity is in a category with approximately 10 to 12 other teams ... that I consider to be a top program (Highlands, Mayfield, Beechwood, Cov Cath, St. Xavier, etc). Hard for me to narrow it down to one).

 

Second question: I very much believe that they probably work harder than 99.99999% of the teams in KY. But that is one small factor (of 100's) as to why they win. (Same goes for the rest of the list I stated above) Not to mention .. who was the coach at Trinity before Bob Beatty? (I have no clue either ... because he came in .. and didn't meet the expectations of the job and whoever it was .. certainly did not walk in .. and drive a porsche to the state championship every year).

I think Trinity is in the discussion. I would probably lean Highlands. In both cases, I think those schools treat football like the educational program/experience it is and therefore they get full support unlike schools that like to hide behind the academics first curtain.

To be also Frank! There are alot of schools that do not observe Title IX. They might when they get audited that year, but go to school where Girls sports are good or great and you have problems for the boys because they have to give things up. A ton up, but the girls sports don't.

I believe that Chuck Smith could make massive improvements to either of the programs mentioned.

To win the whole thing? Definitely tough ... but ... I could give you more reasons why I think he could ... as opposed to reasons why he couldn't.

Not familiar enough with the different programs to know, do they have different challenges than Hazard, who has been a very nice program?
