Final

Birds down 26-14 at the half claw their way back to pick up a nice road victory.

Hopefully Stinky can give some details. Starter Witte DNP out Sick.

Nice job Birds !

Congrats to the Birds!

Birds were down 41-34 with 2 min left and turned up the pressure forcing turnovers.

Held Schroeder to 15 points in 2nd half.

Heard Turner had a big 4th Qtr hitting some Key shots Gronotte also played well for the Birds.

The actual spelling of the team HHS played tonight is Shroder. If a mod could correct that in the thread title.

Shroder is a Cincinnati Public Magnet High School just up I-71 off the Red Bank exit. The schools sits on Duck Creek.

Shroder has an athletic group but are miserable shooters. They were probably 2 for 25 from outside the paint.

HHS mustered a whopping 14 points in the first half. Apparently there was some mis-communication between the coaches and the boys - the coaches said that we need to work the ball around and get a good shot, what was heard was pass up good shots and throw the ball around forever until we turn it over. Painful to watch, again.

The second half was a little better. Parker Harris made a huge 3 pointer and drew a charge on back to back possessions to get the Birds within striking distance. Luke Turner got 2 easy buckets in the last minute to put HHS on top for the first time in the game. HHS fouled with 2 seconds remaining on a stickback attempt. The young man from Shroder missed both free throws and the Birds escaped with a victory.

I guess the old adage - a win is a win applies here. I just don't feel good about it. My expectations for these boys is just a little higher than eeking out a 1 point victory against a 2-9 team.

Was there a 5 pass Rule before you shoot tonight?

Smart hammer I heard by Turner on the stickback attempt to win the game, worked out the best way possible with two misses.

I was unable to make this game tonight. How did the JV do? I just do not understand why some of these kids are so passive when it comes to shooting the ball. My question is are kids playing out of position and thus not comfortable to put the ball up or are some being told not to shoot the ball? Seems to be a problem at all levels of the program right now. There are some nights where kids play an entire game and do not get one shot off, much less even a good look.

Can a mod change the thread to read Shroder instead of Schroeder? Thank you.

My bad on the spelling. Pretty sad considering the HS is 100 yards from my Office.

Can I ask what the attraction to this school is?? NKY teams play both football and basketball there. Can Shroder not schedule or does no one in Cincy want to play them??

Just curious.

Does not sound like anybody wants to play them. They only have 11 games played this year.

13 and last year they had a very nice Athletic Team that would have beaten many 9th and 10th Región teams. Talent must be down this year. Finally the Birds play a Team that struggles shooting like themselves.

Count me in as I watched an 8th grade team stand all night and be told to run play sets. My son runs a back door cut hits a layup and then firmly sits on the bench for not running the play. You win with defense and transition offense and wasted trips with turnovers and no shots are a recipe for disaster! I have watched a few high school HHS games and it is painful! Good looks no shots, why! I ask my son the other day to come up and watch a game last week and he said "Dad more of the same, I am ready for 60 minutes!" Not a ringing endorsement for a basketball program.

Sorry. stinky said they were 2-9. Regardless, half as many games as Highlands I'm guessing.

They must have been 2-10 going into the game, and now 2-11.

HHS plays both Seven Hills and Shroder. Not sure how the matchups got started, but have played them for a few years. The schools are but a 15 minute drive up I71 and it surely beats driving down state to fill out the 30 game schedule. I sometimes wonder why more N Ky teams don't seek out like competition in Cincinnati. Less travel and unlike football, it would not have any impact on the post season.

Maybe the answer to the smallish number of games played at Shroder has to do with the state of affairs within CPS. Even though Shroder is in a relatively nice neighborhood with 5/3 and Coke having big work facilities next door, the school operates like a prison. You walk through metal detectors and get wanded if you set off the horn. After the game, the spectators are hurded into the lobby as the gym is locked down. Fans are then asked to leave together as a group. The kids and fans of the host school were graciuos hosts. Call me naive, but I didn't see the need for all the extra security. Maybe all the extra work it takes to host a basketball game is one of the limiting factors to the number of games played.
