KHSAA approves Region 1 Basketball Alignment

Still a 3 team district in that Region. I just don't understand why they don't realign the whole state.

Apparently they're worried about someone being mad.

They just asked the Region 1 schools from what I can tell. It's SHOCKING they wouldn't want to bring in another team. It has to be a STATEWIDE project. The KHSAA is supposed to realign the state for next season, but it appears they have decided against it.

I think there are some geography concerns in western Kentucky, too. Regions 1, 2, and 3 all have 15 teams, while Region 4 has 17 and Region 5 now has 18. You could do some moving around but it can become cumbersome; for example, Logan County and Russellville might have to move to the 3rd. There is also the impending situation at Monticello, which could force Russell County or Clinton County into the 12th.

I'm not saying that they didn't want to hurt any feelings, but this alignment could have become a really big project based on the Region 1 situation. My guess is they'll wait to see if any more independent schools close in the next year or so and then do a statewide modification thereafter.

By the way, I'm glad they went with Option A in Region 1 instead of either Option B or Option C.

Bringing in another team from Region 2 was never discussed.

there were 3 options, 4 districts like it is now, 3 districts with 5 teams each or 2 big districts.

I guess so, a lot of schools don't have wrestling in KY.

They do more than one thing at BOC meetings. Wrestling is up for realignment and the proposal was sent out in Nov, and approved in Jan.

Livingston Central is closer to many of the teams in Region 1 as opposed to Region 2. I really thought they would be moved. Of course when you move them, someone has to be moved into Region 2. Years ago, Todd County Central was in Region 2, thought they might return, especially since Hwy 68 is now a 4 lane hwy. Guess they just didn't want to upset many people.

Todd County Central could easily come back into the second region, but I believe they'd have to come back in paired with a team like Muhlenberg County. Unless they want to ship one school out of the 4 team Hopkinsville district.

Guess they just didn't want to upset many people.

I think the intention was a temporary fix. I look for a larger-scale realignment in a couple years once the new schools have all opened and the questionable status of some independent school districts has been settled.
