truthbtold Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I'm wondering if anyone thinks the ranking system is bias at times? Depending on the reputation of the coaches at times determines how the voters distribute their votes. UK lost two games to unranked teams and dropped from 3 to out of top 25. UL has lost 3 straight games, two to unranked teams and only dropped 4 spots.
gchs_uk9 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Kentucky had no real body of work to prove themselves a quality team when they lost those early games. Louisville has about 15 good games to stand against their recent poor showings. That's why you often see wild swings in rankings during the first month of the season, but an overall evening out of rankings after Christmas. And to that end, let's all remember that AP and Coaches polls mean little when it comes to the NCAA tournament.

UL has lost 3 straight games, two to unranked teams and only dropped 4 spots. UK had lost three games when they were dropped form the top 25. Two that week as you said but they were bad losses. A well deserved drop in the polls. Of course a ranking system has bias. It is a collection of everyone's opinions
bugatti Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 There is also a lot more fluidity with the polls early in the season. Naturally one would think dropping two games to un-ranked teams would drop you more than 4 spots (have the rankings even been released yet?). Other flaw is every single team losses now  By my count 14 of the top 25 lost this past week.
gametime Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I thought it was common knowledge the national media hates UK??? :idunno:

It was such a wild and crazy week in college basketball that I could see the rankings being almost the same this week; basically the pollsters taking a pass and saying "I have no clue where to rank anyone!"
Michael Corleone Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I'm more confused at how UK is not considered a tournament team by some yet they are still considered a quality win for the teams that have beaten them.

UK has an RPI around 62, so on a resume they are a top 100 win. On the other hand in looking at their resume UK doesn't have much on there to show that they are a quality team at this point. Luckily for the Wildcats the rules state you have to put 68 teams in the tournament and once again the bubble is shaping up to be very weak. Still a few chances to go from very weak resume to one strong enough to get in this field...

All that makes me think that unless they collapse completely, Kentucky should be in the tournament, but in the late-Tubby/first Gillispie seed range of 8-11.
