Is it just the simplicity of it?I think there were just so many of them available at one time to people on a budget that they were really widespread. For me, like 68 stated, it is more of a nostalgic thing where I grew up shooting my grandpa's gun. It was his only gun and I wish I could have it. But, they were well made and shot well, at least that one was.
February 2, 201313 yr What shotgun would you all recommend for a newbie? I would like to deer hunt with it but primarily I would like to use it for duck.
February 2, 201313 yr Author I'm no expert but IMO, a well made pump shotgun would be a good place to start and it won't break the bank. Mossberg and Remington both make a pump shotgun combo that includes a vent rib barrel with chokes as well as a 2nd rifled slug barrel for deer hunting. Mossberg 500 combo is about $125 cheaper on average and is a bargain while the Remington 870 combo sells for around $500 depending on model. I'm not sure about the availability of either but both are solid pump shotguns that have stood the test of time and will perform well for you. February 3, 201313 yr I'd buy a Mossberg 935. Forget all that pump jazz. Remember, all you want your shotgun to do is "Boom, boom, boom". I'm only giving 2C a hard time. But I started with a pump and once I upgraded to an auto, the only pump I've owned since has been an 870 SuperMag. Kicks like a mule with 3 1/2s
February 3, 201313 yr I have had several shotguns through the years, Remington model 11, 1100, Savage, Mossberg and Ithaca. I always kept a couple for trading/selling. I really liked the old Ithaca model37 pump I had, only drawback was that it was so lightweight that it kicked the crap out of you. I now can no longer get out and hunt due my M.S. so I have traded/sold all and back to my old reliables that were passed down to me by my father. A Remington Model 11 (made off the Browning patent),12ga, imp cyl., was a great rabbit and bird gun. My baby is the old L.C. Smith 16ga double barrel (mod/full) that I used for pretty much anything but was a great little squirrel gun. Although not a shotgun I killed plenty of squackers with the savage bolt action .22lr. I can't hunt now but have plenty of memories of times spent hunting with my dad and a couple of best friends that will never die. I apologize for "rambling" on but I get to talking about times spent hunting/fishing in the past and don't know when to quit.

February 8, 201313 yr Anybody know anything about the Stoeger Condor Over-Under 12 ga/20 ga Combo? One of my brothers seems to be stuck on the idea of getting one and was asking me about it. About all I know is that Stoeger is a Benelli subsidiary, and that they're manufactured in Brazil. There's something about the idea of a new over/under shotgun (especially one with two interchangeable barrels) costing less than $800 that doesn't really pass the smell test for me. Anyone had any experience shooting one, or know anyone who has?
February 8, 201313 yr My favorite gun to use in my 16 gauge model 12 Winchester, I love that gun, it just comes up so smooth for me. It goes boom, boom, boom about as fast as an automatic. I have 2 Belgium Brownings, a Sweet Sixteen, and a Gold 20 gauge.

Let's not forget that now. Sorry suckers, worst turkey callers I've ever heard. Not too great a shot among them either. Ha. You still got the LC Smith? I'd pass that one on as an heirloom. Especially to one who won't have that sucker on gunbroker the next day. If you ever want to sell that thing, you give me a call. I'll make sure it stays out of the hands of those "sorry partners" you had from time to time.

March 25, 201313 yr Have one. Actually, I should restate that, my son has one in 20ga. It's virtually indestructible.
