My guess is you don't like face masks on football helmets, baseball players wearing their helmets at the plate and on the base paths or the heat rule either, as they are all done with safety in mine for the benefit of the players and I mean who cares about the safety of the kids playing the games anyway! :idunno:

It isn't any more safe but the KHSAA/NFHSAA I can only assume hopes the coaches speak to their players up and until the stripes take control of the game!

Rule came into play before Break-a-way rims...might need to be revisited.

Why does a player need to dunk before a game?

Last I checked you could dunk in warm ups in Indiana!

I guess they'd argue it's a safety issue.

 

I don't think it's necessary nor would have a negative effect if it was lifted.

 

Notice a lot of the officials coming in at 15:00 with the heads down so they can say they didn't see a kid dunking. No one wants to start the game with a T.

The second half of the Mason-Pendleton game on Friday started with a T on Pendleton for dunking at halftime warmups. I heard that Mason's coach pointed it out to the game officials. There was no controversy or argument but would the officials have to view this with their own eyes? Maybe someone who knows exactly how things developed on that can enlighten us.

 

An official would have to see it.

NFHS rules forbid it. Players do it until the officials come out. Officials always come out at 15:00 so players and coaches know when to stop.

Clyde have to agree with Front of the rim on this one, as I have seen kids hurt and in fact saw a kid break his leg (it wasn't pretty) in a scrimmage game at Lou St. X a couple of years ago just after we won a game and were on our way out!

 

 

Unless you're for banning the dunk entirely - in game or out - it's a silly rule.

 

If the NFHS thinks that dunking is dangerous they will ban it.

So ban the dunk all together? No dunking ever again so the kids can stay safe? That's the solution?

 

Should we ban layups for all the kids that have sprained ankles shooting layups?

 

Should we ban rebounding for all the injuries that have occurred rebounding the basketball?

 

Better yet. Let's keep them real safe and just make the play play H-O-R-S-E. Games would be safer and money would be saved since we wouldn't have to buy uniforms and shoes anymore. You may be on to something.

Did not think anymore about it until the refs called both coaches to center court and told them about the technical. Do not know if the refs were looking in the gym from the front lobby and seen it or was told about it from someone, either way I felt it was unfair.

If they see it then it can't be unfair.

 

No way they can T someone if they didn't see it.

To be clear there is no rule that says dunking CAN take place in pre-game prior to 15:00.

 

The rule says no dunking at all.
