Top Ten Players In The 14'th Region

Featured Replies

Speaking of Powell, I was thoroughly impressed with the middle school baseball program at Powell County. The coaches sure do make the varsity coaches job a lot easier. Those Middle school coaches deserve a big :thumb: . They are teaching great fundamental baseball, and the fan support was tremendous. I am jealous!! :sssh:

I agree Kids Fan where is Muncie IMO if he is not the best in the top five for sure in the region. But then again I am a Jason Bowling fan from Owsley too, I think he is in the top ten and myself I think in the top five. I also agree with Sixtyfeetsix by seasons end I think Robert Smith with be up there too. Thats what is going to be so exciting about this season to see these players hold up to their name and I think each and every one of them will.

RHP-Morgan

LHP-T. Smith

Catcher-B. Smith(hands down)

1st Base-C. Hall(Bowling for Owsley does a nice job as well)

2nd base-Napier(great young athlete)

3rd base-R. Hall(probably)

shortstop-Osborne(my top pick, but Hendrix, Couch and Hicks do a great job as well)

Centerfield-Thomas

Outfield-Davidson

Outfield-(this one I'm still pondering since Hazard and Perry graduated their starters last year and KCC and Powell Co. both lost good outfielders as well.)

In all fairness to some of the other teams and kids I'm not as familiar with, I'm sure there are other nice players. Also I made my picks based on defensive play and pitching, not so much on hitting, but most of the sluggers are in my list anyway.

B. Smith, What grade is he in and what makes him the Hands Down Favorite at this spot.

Thats what I say too, what makes B. Smith hands down the best, you have to remember you have Bowling from Owsley and Baker from Leslie at the same position. He is good but so are they. I think Bowling has the best bat. You did put Bowling at first but he is a much better catcher.

Just the best catcher I saw in the 14th last year who will be returning. And it's just my opinion. Like you and everyone else on this board,I'm entitled to it. We can't all agree all the time. Smith has one of the best bats in the 14th also. :thumb:

Where's Muncie from Powell? 4 Year starter at shortstop for the Pirates??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I really can't say. I only saw Powell play once or twice last season and I beleive Muncie pitched. In another thread I said he was one of the better pitchers in the 14th. I'm sure he is a good defensive player also, besides it's just my opinion. :thumb:

There is a lot of hidden talent that is not advertised on the Powell Co. team, they have a lot of great ball players.

IMO Smith "Wil BE" the best player in the 14th by season end. Bowling "Will BE" top 5 and you all are overlooking McIntosh Who is an outstanding defensive player and very accurate hitter for the Owls. He is their 2nd baseman and one of the most consistent hitters in the region. He also had very few defensive errors last season. So I would place him in the top 10 by season end.

Thanks for the information MRUMPIRE, however this was not an attack on your opinion and I hope you really did not take it as one. Just hoping you would inform us on Smith’s more dominate characteristics he owns at the Catcher position.

How is the middle school team from last year at Owsley doing? Just wondering.

I'll help MRUMPIRE out here. This is from the book that was kept by the team stats guy. Smith didn't catch all year. He did play at SS and pitched 3 games. Most of his time was spent behind the plate, though. Def. stats Smith had were 81 PO (Put Outs) last season. 63 of those were from the catching position. And of those 63, 32 were from runners caught stealing.

Offense

AB-113

Hits -47

Runs- 42

BA -.416

RBI's-36

C. Hall was right behind him with a .398 BA. 36 runs and 40 RBI's.

Doesn't the kid pitch also? Definatly should be on the list anyway for his ability at shortstop.

There is no Middle School Program as of right now. I'm not sure that they can have one based on the title 9 stuff. It was a great program/idea but it got cancelled right in the middle of the year last season.

Doesn't Coach Whitt have a Softball program, if so I believe this would be okay under Title IX, offering a program equivalent to Baseball, like Softball and the "opportunity" for ladies to play, should suffice the requirements.....hopefully they can have enough to play.

Simth is a good catcher nobody said he wasn't. The kid from Leslie County is to and so is Jason Bowling from Owsley. I don't think no one is hands down the best is all I am saying.
