i am not saying Smith and Congelton are not good players. Bowling does not play the outfield so no doubt Congelton is a better outfielder. Bowling is a catcher and a good one too. He also hits the ball very hard and for a high average. No doubt Smith is one heck of a pitcher and a very very good hitter. I'll be glad when baseball season starts every team in this district will be fun to watch and everyteam has very good players. You know a team we are all forgetting about is Estill and I will bet they will have as good of players as any team in the region.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Baker from Leslie catch, but if he is better that Jason Bowling of Owsley Co, he is TOUGH.

Like the list but I think the Smith kid as talented as everyone says he may be must prove himself before joining this list. Laying out of baseball for a year is unlike a lot of other sports. You don't just pick up where you left off. Good player but not on this list. IMO

I have seen a lot of good baseball players in my time. The one thing that stands out to me about Robert Smith is his ability to make tough plays look effortless. He has all three of the required attributes to make it to the next level. (1) speed (2) excellent arm strength and (3) hitting for power. Whatever College team gets Robert Smith will have stumbled across a good one. Jason Bowling from Owsley has an outstanding arm, as well as an exceptional bat. It is hard to find a catcher who can catch and hit. Jason can hang with any of them. IMO.

I have been around the kids from Owsley since they were in grade school. I know them as well as anyone other than their parents. I agree with Kids Fan. Robert is one of the most atheletic kids I have ever personally had any dealings with and I think by seasons end Robert will be one of the best players in the 14th region, but he has to prove himself again. I really hate to see the fans talk about him the way they do on the basketball forums when most don't even know him. He made a mistake by transferring to Clay and he paided for it, and you know the whole time I never heard him complain other than he wished he could play. Me personally I hope he reaches his full potential.

Agreed. No way should he be on the list. He would not have been on the list last year either. I have only saw him play baseball (personally) about 4 times. Needs a lot of improvements to make this list.

I wish the kid the best!

If you see him even paractice and you know the game of baseball, then you would agree that he should definately be on the list. I'm going to even stretch it, and say he probably could be on a list that included the best baseball talent in the State of KY. Robert Smith is a tremendous baseball player.

Wow! A lot of hype to live up too!

Good list Earle.

I'd add R. Hall at 3rd/KCC. He did a great job at the hot corner after being moved from 2nd.

E. Potter/KCC RHP. Potter is just an 8th grader and pitched great over the Summer.

Jackson City has a very good OF, Combs, I believe.

I think the OF your thinking of for Jackson City is Chase Thompson.

All I can say is come watch him play this season.

I look forward to it and hope him nothing but the best. As Granny used to say the proof will be in the puddin'. All I was saying is that baseball is not as easy to pick up in midstream and maintain a high level of competency. With him not playing last year I just quetioned his ability to be on the list. I truly hope he is on that list at seasons end and we all will eat some crowe. Great athlete and will have a nice catcher to throw to in Bowling.

RHP-Morgan

LHP-T. Smith

Catcher-B. Smith(hands down)

1st Base-C. Hall(Bowling for Owsley does a nice job as well)

2nd base-Napier(great young athlete)

3rd base-R. Hall(probably)

shortstop-Osborne(my top pick, but Hendrix, Couch and Hicks do a great job as well)

Centerfield-Thomas

Outfield-Davidson

Outfield-(this one I'm still pondering since Hazard and Perry graduated their starters last year and KCC and Powell Co. both lost good outfielders as well.)

In all fairness to some of the other teams and kids I'm not as familiar with, I'm sure there are other nice players. Also I made my picks based on defensive play and pitching, not so much on hitting, but most of the sluggers are in my list anyway.

Where's Muncie from Powell? 4 Year starter at shortstop for the Pirates??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
