Just for fun your pick to coach the 2014 Border War

Featured Replies

Philip Haywood or Mike Holcum if they haven't been HC yet.

DALE, who else.

They would be the fastest KY team ever and guess what they would win, mark it down. Just sayin....

But the KY team would consist of Highlands, CovCath, Beechwood, NewCath and then they would fill in the blanks and add some Lex and Lou kids. LOL, Just having fun everyone, dont go crazy now...

It would be a really fast team though and they would win...

I don't think you will see a big name coach take on this game until its played in warmer weather and outisde of other sports seasons. I think its money game for the organizers and has nothing to do with promoting FB in KY or TN.

If KY and TN coaches associations wanted this game to have real meaning it woudl at least be played on a turf field where a proper playing surface could be guaranteed at a minimum. Until changes are made, you won't see the legends of the game coaching.

Yea you know...the past 3 Ky coaches in this are Tom Larkey, Sam Harp, and Dudley Hilton. Regular old slap nuts.

I think you are correct.

Larkey, Hilton and Harp are in the top 20 coaches in state history. I think that would make them legends. The fact is you will never be able to play this game "out of a season". Seasons go year round for most sports. The only thing this bowl lacks unified support from around the state from the players and coaches. Once that happens the game will grow even more popular than it is.

Problem with warm weather is now days a lot of college teams want their players on campus during the summer prior to their freshman season, that would dramatically cut down the amount of talent in the game.

Several college coaches there each year watching practice and evaluating the kids, so there is one major payoff for the players. As far as money grab, this is sponsored by the Ky and Tenn National Guard..don't think they need fund raisers.

And you comment about legends of coaching not getting involved, well the previous posters relayed my sentiments!

What coaches from the Border Bowl have won for Ky?

Paul Rains in 08

Tom Larkey won this year 2012. Larkey and Rains are the only two coaches that have won.

Coach Larkey also won the game when it was the regular KY/TN All Star game, I had a cousin in that game, it was in Knoxville at Neyland Stadium.
