Maybe coach herald should look in the mirror before he makes such public comments. Again, next year he will probably not be sought out for many article input.

The only thing I can say for Beechwod that looks positive in the future is that the JV team seems to be pretty good at Beechwood. They had a nice frosh team last year.

They have the misfortune of being in a very difficult district as well as having to compete with "A" powers like SH, HC and NC in the 9th region every year.

I think quite a few of those freshmen are no longer playing however. They might be wise to enjoy this season!!

Herald is a pretty str8 up guy, been in the bizness for many years so I doubt there are any sour grapes. I think he has taken that Beechwood program and really put them on the map.....

Except for the fact his best two players aren't from his district.

But then again it is the same paper who employees Andy Furman to write about High School sports in Northern Kentucky and for the life of me can anyone remember seeing Andy at any High School game anywhere? I haven't!

 

HC gets no respect

I am glad in the article Frey got his proper due as did HC on helping start this tourney. To many public school people want to give all the credit to Steidel, he played a major role, but so did Frey and he deserves some credit, that some people don't want to give.

Yes, I remeber a year ago on this site trying to give Frey credit and many public school supporters scorned me as if I was speaking blashphemy of Steidel. There is a reason the first tourney was held at HC, and its not because of the top notch facility.

Didn't see the thread last year, but I'm glad I checked in this year. I didn't realize Frey had such a big impact in the early years, or that Pat helped turn the thing state wide. Thanks for educating me on the subject. :thumb:

 

I think the all "A" is a great event, and I also think it's a big reason the KHSAA can still keep the Sweet 16 a one class tournament.

Great point--Never quite thought of that, but that probably has kept the smaller schools quiet in regards to multiple classes for hoops. Great atmosphere at McBreyer Arena--It's not Rupp, but a big time tourney just the same!! Anyone who wins this has earned a state championship!!

Villa Madonna plays Heritage Academy in Monday night's second game at 6:30. The third game pits Dayton against Covington Latin. There are two games Wednesday, Jan. 25. The Ludlow-St. Henry winner plays NewCath at 6 p.m. The Villa Madonna-Heritage Academy winner plays Dayton at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Dayton-Holy Cross winner plays Lloyd in Thursday's second game at 7:30. That follows the 6 p.m. Newport-Beechwood contest.

 

Dayton got a tough draw. They play Cov. Latin Monday night, Holy Cross (some night) and also get the Villa/Heritage winner Wednesday night. (According to the article)

I'm not a fan of Herald at all. Seems to me he likes a lot of cheese with all that wine. (On the court and off.) I think Michael Romes and Chad Moore have really been the ones who have put the Beechwood basketball program back on the map.

 

 

You are entitled to your opinion as I am. I forgot, its not a team sport right. Moore and Romes are the whole team.... If you look at the whole program from Varsity to JR high, it looks like they are making a conscious effort to turn the program from just a Football school to both. I see Beechwood teams in the AAU leagues as well so I am sure Herald has a lot to do with encouraging this.

 

And for the record, Romes is a stud but Moore lost 1 full year of eligibility and burned his bridge with many people when he left Bellevue for greener pastures. Supposedly someone told him he would get a D1 scholarship in football if he left Bellevue and went to Beechwood..... hmmmmmm
