Thanks. I always thought it was fascinating (and probably a little dangerous) that a player throwing the ball inbounds from the sideline couldn't get her entire foot out of bounds because there was so little room between the line and the first row.

That's what they said when the gym was built. I'm not sure of the actual number.

Yeah I would guess that the new gym only holds about 350 or 400

A question from someone who hasn't been to Jackson in a long time:

 

When my school played game at Jackson City 20+ years ago, there were girls games in the 300-seat crackerbox, but the boys played in what was then the Lees College gym. Does that gym still exist, and what is it used for? And if it's still open, why doesn't the high school use it?

Couple of reasons why they shouldn't use Lee's gym. It's larger floor, and you can't see your hand in front of your face because of the poor lighting.

Just to let everyone know, I went to Jackson to purchase some tickets and spoke to the principal there. First let me say that he is truly one of the nicest and sincerest people I have met. He let me know that while they were pre-selling some tickets, it was not a large amount, but enough to permit the Jackson City's players' families and the faculty to attend. (He sent Lee Co.'s coach an allottment of tickets to do the same). Also they are holding back 350 (at the minimum) to sell at the door. He said that for some reason a couple of radio stations have reported that they are already sold out and he went on to assure me that this was not true. I hope this alleviates any concern.

 

As to why they are playing at Jackson City; an offical told me that the game had to be played at one game or the other and as JC has already played Lee at home it is only fair this game be held at JC. I agree.

 

Anyway, just thought I'd share what I knew and would like to wish both teams the best of luck. And would like to once again send my thanks and gratitude to the Jackson City principal and school officials for being so polite and understanding.

I understand the situation but the problem that i have is: there will be hundreds that do not attend or are turned away at the door!! It is just a bad situation for high school basketball & fans.

I understand and agree. I mean no one wants to be turned away. But at the same time, it tends to happen at sporting events where lots of fans want to attend. I mean for an extreme example; UK plays at Rupp Arena which seats over 20,000 and there are still plenty of people who would like to attend that can't. While Jackson City and Lee Co aren't "UK" and Breathitt's gym may be open there are probably other concerns too, such as insurance covering it; would Breathitt's officials be open to the idea, etc. etc. I definately understand and agree with your point of view but at the same time I can see why it's being played where it's being played. I'm just glad there is this much interest in a game that Lee Co. is a part of; as I am sure the JC fans are for their team as well.

You are correct in regards to the lighting, it is dark in there.

IMO this decision was not very considerate for the fans by the All "A". Gym is too small & everyone must make the best of it but will scare many fans off.

Here's the scoop:

Leebobcatfan is correct on the pre-sale of the tickets to the families and staff. No one will be turned away. When the gym reaches it's capacity, Lee Co. fans and Jackson City fans will go to a seperate location within the school and near the gym to watch the game live on a big screen TV. The game will be filmed by one of the TV class instructors and a live feed will be ran to the big screen TV's. I don't blame any school that has a legitimate shot at the All A in hosting their games at home, regardless of the size. Goals are 10 foot anywhere I agree, but you have to admit that teams tend to play better at home in any league and any sport. This is a big game and could go either way.

Breathitt did offer use of the gym, and Jackson City thanked them and told them it was nothing against Breathitt but they just wanted home court advantage in this game. I think the bickering between Jackson City/Breathittt is over with.

Anyway, Jackson City has worked very hard to organize and accomidate both teams and fans.

The first two rounds of the regional All A is determined by a blind draw at a meeting that is held in February of each year. The semifinals and finals are played at a pre-determined venue. The top team in the bracket is the home team, and the bottom is the away. Jackson City was lucky enough to draw the top and be the home team. I don't blame them for wanting to play the game on their home court. Take every advantage you can get in tournament play. Home court is a big advantage. moving to Breathitt Colusium would no doubt be a bigger gate, but it would take the 'luck of the draw' advantage away from Jackson., and that wouldn't be fair to the team or their fans.
