Due to my busy travel schedule I have only seen one game Holmes and PC. I have read about all though. Just don't think I can give a fair opinion without seeing them all. Looks like the top 5 could go a lot of ways.

I am in the same boat. I would like to see more ball and its hard to be a fan of HS hilos in general and attend other games When I have two playing and a little princesa at home. I yrust Walter at this point.

 

I will say that some will be surprised at the Birds come Feb. Just a completely different chemistry Ryan last season. They get it and go and the ball mo ement has been excellent on offense. They have 3 really good scoring options as well. But they need some time and more games for sure.

 

Holmes right now Serna to be playing some very good ball. Cooper has the best starting 5 IMO but NCC is likely going to be the hungriest. Cov Cath impressed with the big home win over the Crusaders from mighty Moe so they can jump on Ruthsatz back and rodé Into the sunset. Dixie is the same way with Hatton. He can win ganes single handedly.

 

Conner May be a little high losibg at hone to a very inexperienced Boone Team. Newport, even though they have shown well, still have some losses and no depth. However, the Cincinnati kids are carrying them right now. It was nice to see Newport's own, Cody Pearson, put in over 20 the other Night.

Of Walter's top ten I have yet to see Cooper, Ryle, & Conner. Eager to see the Jags considering all the nods they are getting. My thoughts are terribly scattered as for some of the teams that I've only seen once, it was early, and some that I've seen more, I've seen improvement. When NewCath faced Dixie (The Hatton game), early on it wasn't so much that NewCath was so dominate, it was that Dixie was pretty rusty. Certainly saw NewCath's potential mostly because of their length, and their floor general is as confident as they come, but I worry about their depth, and a one dimensional focus. If their perimeter shooting smoothes out, then they are almost complete. When I saw Dixie a second time against Newport, their supporting cast looked much improved from the NewCath game. Light night and day really. Seen Newport 3 times and have been impressed every time. They'll be a feisty load for any team with Short and Pearson having serious game and an honorable supporting cast with good guard play. They held up very well in their season opener against Holmes. After a rusty start, I saw what Holy Cross was made of when they caught fire late in their season opener with Newport. They have no depth to speak of, but what they do have is nothing to sneeze at. They can really turn it on, but with a small bench I'm not so sure they can play at that pace an entire game with the likes of a Holmes, or a CovCath who impressed me more than I expected. This may be the quickest Colonel bunch that I've ever seen, and Ruthsatz has to be seen to believe. You wouldn't guess from just looking at him, but the kid is money and so darn complete, and quick as lightening. His instincts are so solid that it appears that he could perform in his sleep. They ran fast with, and dominated a very quick Taft team that had no shooting to speak of. When they go up against Holmes, I'm expecting a game for the ages where the fans will be worn out just watching. Sure, they rely on Ruthsatz to get his 20, but they're much more than that with experience on the rise. The Bulldogs of course have proven themselves more than worthy as a top vote getter, and will certainly be getting every other team's best attempt when faced. Compared to teams with size, it's hard telling if they'll control the pace, or get rattled by a slower tempo. NewCath historically has given Holmes fits in recent memory, even when the Dogs have been best in class. The Bulldogs have probably the best schedule to test them with every possible type game to face that will only help their experience level as the season progresses. Saw Highlands in their season OT opener against an 0-5 St. Henry and saw that they certainly play with a lot of heart, and do have players of a valid threat with muscle and size (True), solid shooting (Houliston), dimension (Witte), and confident guard play (Hinkel). They're going to have to play catch up in the experience department considering this was just their first game. I expect them to have some early ups and downs, but look for them to fine tune as the season moves on. I'm guessing that they'll eventually be better than a 1 point OT victory over St. Henry. Teams like St. Henry are competitive but just have too many obstacles. If they could shoot a free throw they might win a game or at least stay in one. I put them on a similar level with Lloyd as they too can play, but they're not completely sound and have no depth. Hope you don't mind but I'm going to list my top 13 and place them in 3 groups. Everyone knows who the top 4 are but as of now I will give a nod to speed over size. Pretty good assessment B-Ball Fan as it sounds like you have gotten out and seen a lot of the teams. I kind of like where Highlands is ranked right now as it gives them some incentive to try and move up and jump ahead of Ryle/Holy Cross and possibly knock off Dixie tomorrow night as well. I know they will have their work cut out for them in December but the goal of the Birds is to possibly knock off some ranked teams, win their district (which is at Highlands this year) and advance in the 9th Region tournament. You never know what can happen once tourney time starts. A good draw could catapult them into the Region or a bad draw could send a good team packing like Newport or Highlands. This is definitely the year where if Dayton and Bellevue draw that lone bracket it could be a massacre in the 1st round at Region. Dayton lost to Villa by 48 and Highlands had a running clock going vs Bellevue.

 

If one of those two teams gets that lucky draw it will be a pretty easy first round game for a District winner. No disrespect to either team but Dayton is really really down and Bellevue just lacks size and experience.

 

I look for Lloyd to improve and for Carter to make his presence known in the Region before its all said and done. That kid can fly and knows how to score the ball. St. Henry will get better and once Kuebbing is 100% they should start winning some games. Conner has potential but they need their guards to get experience and to have their complete roster playing.(Barker play yet?)

 

Ryle has played well and Mays is a dandy but I am still not convinced with them yet. I want to see more consistency throughout the season but they definitely have started out well.

I like your perspective and assessment. I have only seen one of your top four, CCH. Ruthsatz can make any shot from anywhere blindfolded. Ryle is very strong and will surprise their opponents. Highlands is going to give any team a good run. They have more going on there than what meets the eye.

Ruthsatz' ability to hit the 3 now is not good news for the 9th Region. I am anxious to see CovCath/Dixie as well as CovCath/NCC play.

I guess everyone agrees with my top 10 since nobody else has put their opinion out other than me messing up game days??? Come on guys. I'd like to know what everyone else thinks too. Maybe you've seen a team I haven't and would rank them higher/lower??

 

Besides all of NewCath's games, I have only seen Cooper & Dixie (vs the Breds) and CovCath vs Moeller. Too early to call, but will make for an exciting season.

I like the rankings. Good job.
