The word around town has former Rowan County coach Doug Preston entertaining an offer by the powers that be at Western.

Anyone?

Confirmed he made it official today an met with the team to tell them he is headed to Western high School to become their new head coach. :dancingpa

I also have confirmed that he officially stepped down at Rowan County today before meeting with the Viking players.

Wow that suprised me a little. How much longer is Rowan Co playing out of District? Good luck to Coach Preston and the Vikings.

Congrats and good luck to coach Preston.

I hope he is from a big city as Western is probably a little different than Rowan County.

I think his time spent at Danville will serve him well at Western. From what i know he has wanted to get to a larger area for some time.

Who is Rowan Co looking at?

Maybe?

TigerKat,

Doug Preston will be fine at Western. He's a great coach and a great man. L'ville Western got a good one here and with what they have comming back the Class AA, Region II District 4 better watch out!

Who will be next at Rowan County?

I've heard Gary McDowell and Kevin Brown as possibilities. Should draw a great deal of interest given their situation. What district will they be in 2007?

Kevin Brown from West Carter HS? What is interesting about their situation?

Who is Gary McDowell and where is/does he coach?

I am a little suprised that Coach Preston would get a head coaching job at a program like Western. I don't know much about Western at all, except that they won some games last year. After 4 years and not turning Rowan around, just seems odd he would get the job.

A person in the Rowan football program told me last week that Preston had also applied for the Lewis job. May just be a rumor going around Rowan Co., I don't know.

Hope Coach Preston does well wherever he goes.

If I am not mistaken this was his first year at Rowan County. Louisville Western I think would be an attractive job to alot of coaches.
