2012-13 Bowl Lineup

Why is everyone hating on the Huskies? They had a very good season, and why should they be penalized and sent to another (lesser) bowl if they qualify under the BCS guidelines?

I can understand that major schools want to be there just because they are major schools, but NIU did nothing wrong other than play within the system and have a great season.

I think MTSU getting absolutely demolished Arkansas State probably hurt their chances.

And leaving the Sun Belt for Conference USA last week probably didn't help. The Sun Belt held a conference call to determine who goes to Detroit and of course the league will choose the team that stayed.

I laugh when I see people continue to talk about "earning" and "deserving" when it comes to bowl bids. Bowls are exhibitions designed to get people in the stands and eyes on TV. That's why league's set up a selection order and don't slot teams in bowls based on where they finished. The corruption of the bowl system is unbelievable but it has been unbelievable for decades. Fussing about teams not deserving a certain spot is a waste of breath.

Agree a joke.

Any Big East team in a BCS bowl this year=Joke.

Agree a joke.

Their AD was trying to get them in to a better bowl, he asked the Independence bowl to wait a few days so they could test the waters elsewhere, Independence Bowl picked another team, and La Tech was left at the alter by some of the "bigger bowls", and thus will be home for the bowl season despite being 9-3.

Very disappointing and even more reason for Dykes to pack his bags for another job. Word is he is the leading candidate at California.

Agree with you MNCM--They apparently got there because the Big East and Big Ten had no one ranked in the top 15 that was bowl eligible. Not their fault those two conferences stink (OSU aside)!!

I heard they have to buy 17,500 tickets for the game and their average home attendance is only 15,000. It is going to cost them quite a bit of cash to play this game!

No one is blaming NIU.

However, they certainly have not shown they are one of the top teams in America, thus, they do not deserve a coveted BCS bid EVEN THOUGH they played by the rules.

I'd put UC into the BCS before I'd put NIU in.

Plus this:

Iowa 18

NIU 17

NIU disproves your theory that it's about getting people in the stands and TV eyeballs.

That's only because the BCS system was created to allow lower conferences into the pie. Without allowing that, the anti-trust issue would have come up. Trust me, the Orange Bowl doesn't want Northern Illinois in Miami any more than anyone else.

Why Cinncy? They are 9-3 with no wins against ranked opponents? (vice NIU being 12-1 and a Conference Championship winner).

I think it is great to see a team like NIU get a chance like this, but I will readily admit that LSU should have gotten first crack at the Orange Bowl.

It's more of the powers that be never imagining a scenario like this year could actually happen. It's coming back to haunt them now.

Right. They failed to produce a system that ends up with the 16 best teams in BCS bowls.

Who here thinks NIU had a better season than LSU? Who thinks NIU would beat LSU? How about UC? Do you think NIU beats UC? Heck, do you think NIU beats Vandy?

Again, Iowa 19 NIU 18.

UC played a tougher schedule and had success. I don't think NIU has UC's success against the same schedule.

Iowa 19 NIU 18
