After the game fans from both schools gathered at half court and a player from South Laurel lead everyone in a prayer.

 

I have seen this now 3 times from South Laurel. Usually led by Walt Allen. I first witnessed this last year after the classic PRP vs SL game in the Sweet 16. I also have seen Allen lead the team in prayer after a classic OT game in the AAU state tourny at KBA. When I first saw this I was is shock also. I love it. This is how BBall should be. Respect is what its really about. Respect for the game and the two teams playing. Its more sportsman like than even shaking hands after the game, IMO.

I noticed Walt Allen doing that after the PC game too...very impressive and puts things in proper perspective. This one is a real shock to me. I have no doubt that SL will get it together though real fast and begin rolling people again.

You may want to archive this thread before someone from the ACLU (Absolutely Can't Like Us) shows up to close down your program for sponsoring a prayer. I for one applaud the class and character of SL and its student athletes for doing so! :thumb:

 

First off, the school itself has nothing to do with it. The players do it on their own. Walt Allen stole the idea former Wayne Co. player Bradley Bell (I think that was his name).

The way Central held Allen for 5 shots was plain old DEFENSE. Freshman Simpson played excellent defense on him all night. The whole team is buying into Feldhaus' defensive plan. Once again, GREAT win for Central. Go Indians!

Hammonds hit 11-of-21 field goals and had a game-high 23 points. Walt Allen,

10 points, was the only other South Laurel player to reach double figures,

and also added 14 rebounds.

The Cardinals shot just 38.6 percent from the field and had just FOUR

assists. Central had 13 turnovers, but hit six-of-14 three-pointers.

 

 

I believe the four assists is a big reason why Allen didn't get more than five shots.

These things happen when you actually bother to play a tough schedule. I'm sure there will be some crazies out there who think this means South isn't the best team in the 13th (or the mountains, for that matter).

We've been saying this all along. When they share the ball, they're nearly unbeatable. When all that one-on-one stuff starts creeping in, they look very mortal.

This makes me have high RESPECT for SL...you all really are a class act..and us 13th region fans should be proud to have you all representing us....

 

everyone losses a few...I personally think it is better for a team..it shows them they do have to play with all they have to win...

Most likely Walt Allen. He does this after every SL game, regardless of outcome. A very outstanding person, as well as a great player!

I agree. Every game I have seen Walt play he leads the prayer in the middle of the court. He will also find the player or players he was banging bodies against for most of the game first and shows tremendous sportsmanship. I am proud to have a young man like this representing the county in which I live.

Sounds like a perfect candidate for not only the KHSAA Sporstmanship Award but possibly Mr. Basketball as well.

I think the idea of prayer after a ballgame is a great idea, I think it would ease any tension and make the fans feel better about the things that may have happened during the game. I don't think the idea of prayer is a stolen thing.No matter where you have seen it, to continue with it is good. Best thing I have heard sence I've been a member.
