Every kid, from every race, thinks they should have Iphones, 22" rims on $35k cars and their parents literally bet the farm, "family house over mortgaged", that they could and would give it to them. No personal responsibility anywhere anymore.
November 9, 201213 yr I am baffled by this continued refrain from the conservative demographic. I've had WAY too much time to listen to talk radio this week and read crap on the internet. And most are echoing your sentiments. The majority of the country is NOT voting because they want stuff. And frankly, when the conservative party(ies) realize that, they'll figure out a big part of what they need to do to relate to more than the hard right. What are they voting for then?

Considering who I hear this from I imagine it's the distraught rationalizations of those certain Romney would win. It will die out once reality sets in and Republicans are forced to regroup. If not, they'll lose again.

I'm guessing Romney would've been doing a lot of ho-ho-ho-ing for the folks who stuffed his campaign coffers to the tune of $400 million had he won.

Healthcare reform, the excitement of a first Black President. Hope and Change. Second term???????????? The country as a whole is in terrible shape, and the only reason we will not be like Greece for a little while is because we can destroy every country with our military and economy.......no one in their right mind will call in our debt. A much weaker economy and military.......all bets are off.

November 9, 201213 yr Author Understand I'm not just talking about demographics. I talking about a the entire mindset of the country. I thought O'Reilly hit the nail on the head. We are a nation full of people who want stuff. Again, that thinking of "want stuff" is an insult to 50+M people. It's a copout. It's a crutch for a poor candidate who ran a poor campaign and who came across poorly.

November 9, 201213 yr Exit polling doesn't agree with your viewpoint of "terrible shape." When Reagan took office in 1981 the unemployment rate was 7.4% and rising because of the 70s recession. He went on to win in a landslide in 1984 and the unemployment rate in October (the month before people voted) was 7.4% and slowly coming down. Obama took office in 2009 and unemployment was 7.6% and rising because of the financial collapse the year before. The unemployment rate was 7.8% and slowly coming down last month. I’m not comparing Reagan to Obama, and there's more to the story, but I’m pointing out that it shouldn’t be shocking that an incumbent won re-election even though the economy was weak, especially when the public largely held their predecessor responsible (Carter and Bush, respectively).

And that's what I choose to address here, in terms of the Republican party. It's exactly what is wrong with the party. They have picked and parceled their platform to cater and promise to "select" groups. There's no mantra of inclusion at any turn. They champion the causes of the extreme. They refuse to listen to the mainstream....not media...populace. As much as people feel I am "liberal" to the extreme, I actually am not. I could get behind a number of conservative issues if not for the extremism of the plans. From the perspective of electability, the GOP needs to understand that there are a lot of Independent and Democrat voters who are willing to consider voting for Republicans....but they are looking for candidates who present a platform that they feel will benefit the majority, not just a few select groups.
