1) Energy Policy

 

The primary goal would be to make us as energy independent as possible. To that end my first priority would be to replace as many coal fired plants, wind farms and solar farms with nuclear power plants. The United States has vast uranium deposits to fuel them. To those wondering "What about coal?" I would support the development and building of coal liquefaction plants that convert coal into oil for use as fuel. Additionally I would promote development of battery technology along with fusion technology along the lines of using waste products from current and past nuclear reactors as reagents. With these concurrent developments and policies it would hopefully promote better opportunities for electric powered vehicles to help reduce pollution.

 

2) Immigration Reform

 

One of my biggest complaints with the Republican party, not the only one mind you, of late is the fact that their almost rabid refrain of "No Amnesty!!!" and "Shipping back all the illegals!!" has eroded their influence with a group they probably would have garnered support from in the beginning. Given the deeply religious nature of many Hispanics and their emphasis on the family and traditional values the Republican party, by refusing to compromise, helped to make the noose that they hung themselves with this week.

 

My plan for immigration reform has many basic concepts:

-Promote an amnesty for illegals without a criminal background, but insist that once all are registered they must pay fines that will be deducted from their paychecks as recompense for their violating out borders illegally.

 

-Streamline the process of legal immigration and offer more incentives for guest worker programs to improve relations with Mexico.

 

-Prosecute, fine and/or jail those who continue to employ immigrants who are not here legally.

 

-Improve border security complete with signs in English and Spanish indicating that attempts to cross illegally will be seen as a threat to the sovereign soil of the United States and may be acted on with deadly force. Possibly deploy drones along the border to assist the BP in monitoring/stopping illegal crossings.

 

The last one may seem harsh, but my thoughts are that we need to offer as many incentives as possible for people to come here legally and not make it mindbogglingly difficult or expensive for them to do so.

 

3) Social Policy

 

I have a few basic concepts regarding the government that I tend to follow. I want the government out of my wallet, out of my bedroom, out of my church and as out of my life as is feasible. To that end I am very much a libertarian in regards to social policy.

 

I am for the legalization of marijuana and treating it like other legal intoxicants such as alcohol. As to the the legalization of ALL drugs I will not go that far. My background in a pharmacy along with my historical knowledge of drug policy in the United States prevents me from wanting to allow a drug free for all. Certain drugs such as crack, LSD, crystal meth, heroin and the powdered form of cocaine, unless legitimate medicinal uses are found that no other drug can do need to stay illegal. While I do question the right of the government to limit what I ingest into my own body, there are some substances out there that are inherently dangerous to others when injested and the ones I mentioned above can cause behavior more deadly than alcohol or the tetrahydrocannabinol in marijuana.

 

I am completely for the legalization of all forms of marriage, or rather I am actually for the removal of the government from the institution of marriage. The term marriage shouldn't even appear in governmental documents or licenses as it denotes a religious concept. If you want a document to indicate for legal commitment to another individual then you can have a civil union license, not a marriage license. As far as who is eligible for such a license... any and all consenting adults may be allowed to apply for one no matter their orientation OR the multiples in their marriage. For those that are unsure of what that means I will put it more plainly. If you wish to be bound to a member of your sex or the opposite sex that is fine; additionally if multiple consenting adults are willing to apply for the union together then I see no issue with that either. What people do with each other in the privacy of their own lives is of no consequence to others as long as no one is being coerced or forced.

 

While I do not personally like the thought of abortion, I would never push to make it illegal. I think that those who are doing so are barking up the wrong tree. Being the type trying to ban it is more likely to react in an equally strong backlash by those who want the option. You want to win the hearts and minds of the people on that subject and to that end I have no issues with people promoting things like "Choose Life" but straight up banning it I would not sign off on. Until you can change the minds of the majority of the people it doesn't matter how many legal challenges you put forth.

 

4) Foreign Policy

 

I am for reducing our involvement in other countries affairs as much as possible and to that end working with China in the future. I know their collectivist cultural mindset and its single party system is anathema to individualistic American mindset, but we need to understand and acknowledge which way the winds of future will be blowing. They will be the next superpower and wouldn't it be better if the two superpowers of the world were on the same side as opposed to at each other's throats all the time, waging proxy conflicts in other countries?

 

Maintain UN and NATO alliances but we are not to act as the world's police force anymore. We are to protect our citizens and our interests but nothing more unless we are directly attacked. Strengthen the Navy and Air Force as they are our primary lines of defense. Reduce the size of the Army and the Marine Corps, but maintain large pools of reservists and mothballed equipment that can be reactivated at a moment's notice.

 

Reverse our Cold War policy of supporting brutal dictators just because they are friendly to us. The vast majority of the issues we have with the perception of America in the Middle East as more to do with things like our support of the Shah of Iran and Mubarak who were not particularly open and accepting rulers(the Shah in particular).

 

Work on multilateral peace with the stable countries of the Middle East, of which there are a few, including Israel. While some may refuse and want to walk away from the table, there is no other way of working to resolve the problems without genocide. So it is that or nothing.

Complete Audit of the Federal reserve and the federal government. Considerable pay cuts to all legislators AND to the president of the United States. Reduce as much waste as possible while focusing on tax reform. Eliminating loopholes for all Americans, both private and business, but lower the overall tax rate so as to simplify the tax system as much as possible. Commission research into Fair Tax and Usage tax as possible replacement for all taxes, but make no actions until results are in.

 

Reduce spending on foreign aid and use the savings to help in bringing down the deficit.

Nuclear has a lot of positives. The negative is (besides NIMBY) how long it takes to get a plan up and functioning. I think I read something like 18 years.

I don't agree with a pay cut for POTUS and legislators.

 

My concern with eliminating tax deductions (I assume that's what you mean by loopholes) is the potential impact on key industries such as housing. We need people buying homes and eliminating the interest deduction (IF that's what you meant) COULD be damaging overall.
