November 1, 201213 yr That wasn't the intention. Pretend they are not. I think it makes a difference though, in an individual sport it on the surface is easier to removed/suspend the individuals involved. With a team sport, it affects the teammates in a larger fashion.
November 1, 201213 yr Now the school administrators are gonna have to straighten things out with some parents that are bent out of shape. That gets back to my point that the coach is an extention of the school, and theirfore having sport specific rules that are not school rules and abided by all create other issues.
November 1, 201213 yr ...a player from the table tennis team . What I want to know is, how will this affect their table tennis scholly?
November 1, 201213 yr Questions, questions, questions.... Should the school have any say at all in things that go on off school property? If so, what is the appropriate penalty? Who should impose it, a coach or an administrator? Should the penalty be uniform across all sports/activities or should the team/coach decide? HE'S BACK!!!
November 1, 201213 yr I think there should be the same set of rules/punishment for all of athletics. Every athlete signs the same rules no matter if they are a RB or an alternate on the corn hole team. Then if a specific sport wants to have additional rules/punishments they have their athletes agree to those. How do you handle suspensions then? Being suspended for a game in football is a lot more severe than in baseball.
November 2, 201213 yr That gets back to my point that the coach is an extention of the school, and theirfore having sport specific rules that are not school rules and abided by all create other issues. Playing sports is a priviledge and most coaches hold their student-athletes to higher standards than the rest of the student body. If the team has a rule that drinking will merit suspension from the team than thats what needs to happen regardless of whether or not another sport or school has the same rule. This is what you signed up for.

November 2, 201213 yr Having specific penalties that go across all sports - individual or team, girls or boys, varsity jv or frosh would be the best way to approach this. I have seen instances where students from multiple sports were caught breaking team rules and the punishments were vastly different. Coaches decided the punishments in their own sport. As was eluded to in an earlier post - parents of those treated more harshly were not very happy.
November 2, 201213 yr How do you handle suspensions then? Being suspended for a game in football is a lot more severe than in baseball. Then do it by % of the season. first offense 10%, second 25%, third your gone, something like that. That would mean 1 game for football players and 3 or 4 for baseball.
November 2, 201213 yr Lets say that they dont, tennis coach suspends their kid, bowling coach doesnt. Now what? Each team has their own rules. I don't see how there is anything else. Now if there's a school policy that's a whole nother story.
November 2, 201213 yr Some schools have policies and some coaches may have a set of policies that are more severe than the schools.
