Somerset has a LOT of work to do before even thinking about NCC.

NCC has beat 2 teams with a power rating above 43 Dixie Heights 62.8 and Beechwood 61.2, the rest of their win's have come aganist team from a 42 power rating to a 0.1 rating. Somerset has beat 7 teams with a power rating above 43, Danville 66.9, Hazard 62.1, Glasgow 60.1, Perry Central 56.4, LCA 52.3, East Jess. 46.5 and Southwestern 43.1. Plane to see Somerset has beat better teams than NCC. If they both make it to round 4. This game will be at Somerset and NCC will go down. NCC has a cake walk to 4th round. Somerset will have to play hard and well to make it to 4th

 

round.

Who did you see each play?

I think CAL has a legitimate shot at it this year. One of the stats that stands out is their Defense. They have averaged giving up 10 points a game and that was while playing 3 2a teams in the BGP’s top ten, along with a good 6a and 4a team. Then on the other side on the ball they are averaging 27 points a game. Their defense will keep them in tough games.

2A is very wide open and there is no "prohibitive" favorite because of the way the bracket falls. OCath and NCC would both have to play on the road in the state semifinals. If Somerset makes it that far, they would play at home but they have to get past Danville and Lexington Christian again in their region. 2A is by far the most wide open and I think you will see another Holy Cross-type team slip through and surprise in December

Breathitt County and Danville for Somerset and NCC numerous times. I like Somerset's defense but this is one of the weaker offenses that I have seen of theirs in the recent past. I see them struggling to score against NCC IMHO. That being said I rate NCC slight favorite going in. They have to my eye more speed than Breathitt.

Have you seen NCC play? I haven't seen Somerset so I really can't make a prediction at this point. NCC does have it easy I think to the 4th round, can't do anything about that. It's great to have confidence in the team you support but its naive to make statements like that if you haven't seen the opponent.

 

Don't think I'm naive, Coached High School Football a long time. After 10 weeks of play these ratings are pretty close. Sometimes they lay an egg, but I'd say 95% of the time they are right on. IMO

I know plenty of people who have coached high school football for a long time who still don't know what they are talking about, including myself. Not saying you're one of them just saying it doesn't mean people who coach know what they are talking and tend to think their teams are better than what they are. If the power rankings are usually pretty close in accuracy and NCC is #1 then that's fine by me.

Including myself meaning I've coached for a long time not that I don't know what I'm talking about. Lol.

Danville gets back two key players tonight, starting QB Devonta Alcorn and their big lineman JK Howard. Howard has been out 5 weeks and I'm interested how he performs. I still think His return will be a big psychological boost for the ADS. I hope the ADS come out and take care of business early against Betsy Layne.

If these 2 teams make it to round 4, it will be at Somerset and I believe that gives them a huge advantage. I think NCC has a Cake walk to 4th round, no one on their side has a power rating above 42. Somerset has to play well or they want make it.

In the Breathitt game Trent ran wild in the second half as you saw, SHS lost a couple of starting DB's that had done a good job coming up on him in the first half. Without them Trent was able to get outside and go. Danville game Somerset O played a bit better. I understand where you are coming from as Somerset O hasn't been anything to write home about.

 

But got to take care of Shelby Valley or it doesn't matter!

 

For the Jumpers to continue to advance, D must stay solid and create some short field opportunities and then they must capitalize. Jumpers have been putting together some long drives the last few games but still inconsistent on that side of the ball. Somerset Vs LCA and if they get by that one Somerset vs Danville/Prestonsburg winner would be great games. If P'Burg then the Jumpers have to travel a LOOOOONG way, bus rides sometimes are an equalizer, especially ones that long.
