October 28, 201213 yr This trade actually helps the Thunder more. Yes they lose Harden but he wasn't going to resign unless he got a max deal after this season. Now they have a scorer in Kevin Martin, a high potential rookie in Lamb and another 2 first rounders that could be in the lottery. Thunder won this trade.
October 28, 201213 yr Um wow!!!!! Double Wow! Odd Timing to say the least. I mean even if they cannot sign him to an extension at the end of the year they could have rolled the dice and at least tried to make another run with him. Then at the end of the season pulled a sign and trade or something of that nature, Martin's contract is expiring and they get Lamb, so if he pans out and they put the two picks to use it may be a good move. Thunder made their name by drafting the right pieces so I guess they're going for it again. Hard to strike gold that many times in the NBA draft though.

Martin can score but he is nowhere near they player Harden is. Never ever dismantle a championship team until you have to. They got a good deal for sure but I'm sure team morale is down a little bit with this type of shock.
October 28, 201213 yr They have a big expiring contract (Martin) and draft picks so they should be in good shape to make an impact move at the deadline.

They got a good return but I think the trade came out pretty even. Rockets were starving for a player who could potentially have that star power and getting a guy off this years Olympic squad helps. It was clear through all of their head scratching off season moves they wanted to do something and after going through plans A.) B.) C.) D.) E.), they finally got their man. The Rockets were wanting to make a move for a top player and they finally did it. Lamb wouldn't have been a big contributor this year I wouldn't think, but put him on a team with the talent of OKC then he has the perfect environment to develop and come along into the player he has the potential to be. Same thing for Martin, he's going to score a bunch of points and be one of Houston's best players, but he's not going to be a difference maker for them. You pair him with scorers like Durant and Westbrook though and it's just a better situation, plus they can release him at the end of the year and free up 12 mil. I know OKC got the two picks but IMO both teams got what they wanted and got what they needed so I think it was a pretty even deal for both.
October 28, 201213 yr I feel like the Thunder got the best of the deal in this one. For some reason I just don't like Harden that much. Granted, I know he is a very, very good player but its just something about him that doesn't leave me much sold. How many more years does Harden have on his contract?

This year and a qualifying offer for next year but Houston will give him the Max extension.
October 28, 201213 yr Thunder sold high on Harden and got a great deal out of it. Even if they are just average they have an extra draft pick to work with so they can at least hope the Rockets suck it up.
October 28, 201213 yr This has to be a white flag decision right? They're basically saying, "We can't beat either the Heat or the Lakers this season, so let's dump the contract and try to build something different longer-term." From that standpoint, it's hard to argue with the front office's logic. I didn't think they could beat the Lakers or the Heat this year either. Houston's problem is an interesting one. They're still in a nasty position; James Harden is now their best player. That's not a winning situation either. That first-round pick would have probably been pretty helpful in trying to build for the future. This trade's effectiveness is only going to be determined long-term.

Well the issue was that the thunder had given extensions to guys like Westbrook and Ibaka and Harden was talking about getting a "maxed out" contract. Well with those extensions, they were going to be hard pressed to give that to Harden and Harden didn't play to the caliber that would deserve a max contract.
