You're swimming in the wrong pool here. I think most folks in this pool think you should earn what you get. As a son of a jarhead, I'd think you employ the same philosophy.

I do believe you earn what you get. I believe these boy's (all of em) earned every game the KHSAA allows them to play in. They earned in in June and July in 100 degree heat when all their buddy's was riding around and walking the mall...

$$? I believe some teams lose money in that first round game when you consider transportation, and other game expenses, when the visitors bring less than 100 people and the home team fan stay away due to not wanting to attend a blow out in the cold!

 

BTW Soccer, Baseball, Basketball etc. play more than one game a week and thus the games/tourney gets over quicker. Football plays only one game a week and it takes over a month and a week or so from start to finish!

Let's not act like blowouts only happen in football.

 

And if you are a football player and losing to a #1 seed by 60 points in the first round affects you to the point of quitting, you shouldn't be playing football any way. There are coaches that use the 1-4 game as motivation for their players and even parents.

 

"This is what we are striving for. Look at how they do things. Look at their facilities. Watch how they play the game."

 

And let's face it. In this age of budget cuts, football programs are looking for any revenue they can get. Sometimes it means traveling for a first-round butt whooping just to bring home $3,000. That could be an assistant's salary for the year. It may pay for equipment for the following season. Or it may be just enough to get them out of the red for this season.

 

I can understand certian situations where playing doesn't accomplish anything. That usually involves small rosters and lots of injuries going into the postseason.

 

But of you are truly trying to build a program, you use the 50-point loss in 2012 to show your seniors in 2014 just how far you have come. I've been on both sides of the first round blowout. Obviously, the winning side is more fun. But the losing side brought with it lessons. And three years later showed an 11-2 team just how far the program had come. There's more to this game of football and athletics in general than what the scoreboard says.

IMO these blowouts happen all season long...so what makes it any different in the playoffs? So BowlingGreen should not play Podunk ......No, everyone should get the same chance to advance as the next. Win or lose its one more game that I get to watch high school football at its purest!

 

And no matter how many opposing fans show up at our games both schools will profit from the gate! We pack the house!!!!!

I Can't argue that either....chances are taken every game when you play football.

It seems that there aren't many fence straddlers here. Either you like the current playoff system or you don't. I'm in the don't category obviously. But that's why we have a great board. Lots of opinions and we aren't afraid to let em be known.
