I say no. Typically I'm more optimistic of my fellow man. But on this issue, I fear that it will never change.

I voted "no," but that is more about the status quo being difficult to change than it is a prediction.

I agree and I think that's where judges like Roberts and Kennedy fit into this discussion. Kennedy in particular has spoken about not wanting to turn the court into a political battleground where precedent doesn't matter and that laws shift and change with the makeup of the court.

 That caused me to choke on my latte! :p

Being a fiscally conservative, pro-choice, environmentalist (ok just confused)...I don't think it will be overturned in my lifetime (assuming a reasonable life-expectancy not shortened by accident, terrorist act or armegeddon later this year). This is one response I felt Biden got right...personally for or against..it is not the government's role to decide. I believe this position covers more people than the Pro-life side.

Time for my oft-asked question.

If you want it to be overturned what penalty do you want for those that still have an abortion?

From a religious perspective, I'd love for it to be overturned, from a political perspective, it's not the government's job. With that said, if it were overturned, I'd have to assume it was due to the law now recognizing the fetus as a life, thus murder would be the only logical charge and I'd be 100% okay with that.

With today's modern women, I would say no way will it be Women almost always shoulder the majority of the responsibility for unplanned pregnancies, and they know it.

Exactly where I was hoping this thread didn't go...

I think I know where you are headed with this and I agree. If abortion is illegal, doesn't the penalty have to be the same/similar to murder? If that's the case another reason it will stay legal.

This topic is probably worthy of its own thread. Would be very interested to see what people have to say.

Actually I had a different follow up depending on what UKMF responds with.

My faith tells me it is, but then I'm making decisions based on my religious beliefs and that's something I refuse to do with regards to politics.

Does your faith tell you it's murder if I shot someone in cold blood?

My original question was heading to a follow up of if you believe it's murder then you have to believe it's the government's job to be involved. Same as the government is involved in stating that me shooting you in cold blood is murder and against the law.

I think Planned Parenthood v Casey is about as close as we'll get, in that abortions will become more and more difficult to get, but never outlawed.
