I like Bourbon County, maybe 28-14.

I believe Hopkins will be too much for the Golden Lions. Bourbon 42-14

Powell County simply is not very good at all and for Garrard to struggle with them spoke volumes. Personally I don't know if anyone comes within 3 TD's of Bourbon until Week 14.

The Powell County game probably wasn't the best barometer for reading this Garrard team. I'm not sure how many BGPers were there, but the field was solid mud (and fog) which led to a whole lot of off-tackle running. Garrard's tailback Noah Williams actually ran for 340 yards in the game, so the Lions were moving the ball quite well. The biggest problem were two fumbles in Powell territory that, if they don't happen, make the score a very comfortable 42-14.

 

The Garrard defense has been very stout this year, allowing only 17 points per game. Their strongest suit is run defense, which is Bourbon County's strength. If Garrard can keep Hopkins, etc. from getting outside then they can compete. If they let the Bourbon runners get into space, it could be a long night.

 

On offense Garrard continues to employ a power running game. Methodical, time-killing drives have been the story for much of the season for the Lions. The good part about that is it keeps the opponent's offense off the field. The bad part is when you fail to score, either on downs or by turnover, your possession feels wasted. It can also make it difficult to mount a comeback.

 

If Garrard can stay close, then they can win the ballgame. If they let Bourbon jump out to a quick lead then the hill might be too tall to climb. Most people likely won't give Garrard much of a chance, which hopefully will be extra incentive to play even better. It should be an exciting night in Lancaster come Friday.

Mix in the transfer quarterback, who I've heard very good things about, and you have the makings of a very solid Bourbon County ball club.
