Could Bob Sphire be leaving Lexington Catholic?

Featured Replies

Sphire finally got the big one this year and Burke is gone. Add to that, the job he was passed over for last year is open again:

UK QB Job Open

I would expect Sphire to take a hard look at the UK job if UK will look at him.

I would be interested in hearing more about this. The timing is as right as it will ever be for Coach Sphire to move on. He won the 3A title and the Horsemen have new ownership (and Coach Sphire already won a Pro Indoor Title).

Anyone?

That's the first thing I thought of when I say the opening. Although coach Sphire would be sorely missed at LexCath, ther are not that may openings like this in a lifetime. It would be selfish for LexCath fans to not want him to make the best decision for himself and his family, in my opinion

I have heard some talk about Coach Sphire moving along but not going to UK. I have heard his resume is floating around in Texas. Loking for another high school job.

I look for this to happen. UK talked to Coach Sphire before they hired Smith from Bourbon. This would be a good PR mone for UK as they would get another well respected high school coach in Ky.

You mean Boyle. It may be good PR but UK will do whatever they think will make them win. If it is Shpire then they will hire him if not they will go after someone they feel will do a good job at coaching up the QB's and recruiting. They already have a couple good coaches affiliated with Kentucky they don't need more for good PR. They need to win!!!!!!

Just heard on the news that Sphire is talking to a prep school in Georgia, and should be making a decision by Monday

I wonder if it's Valdosta High School?

Valdosta hired former MTSU coach Andy McCullom.

Do you have a link to a story to that effect? The Valdosta web site doesn't have any new info. The message boards down in Georgia had the list down to four canidates but were all current HS coaches (three from Georgia and one from Indiana). Bottom line, I don't think one 3A title in Kentucky would turn anyone's head down at Valdosta.

The names:

Rick Tomberline

Roger Holmes

Rance Gillespie

Kevin Wright
