I'm sure there has to be some sort of data or research Rizzo is using to come to his decision. It's kind of hard to argue with the decisions he has made as the GM of the Nationals. He has obviously done a great job building that franchise to the point they are at today. Could the decision end up costing the Nationals a World Series? Sure, but that statement might be as accurate as the Verducci effect. He's been entrusted by Nationals ownership to make the best decisions with their investments. It's his job that is on the line, and I'm sure if ownership didn't agree with his decision to sit Strasburg they will let him know, whether it be now, or 2-3 years down the road. To say it's a mistake to sit him is equivalent to saying it was a mistake not to make Chapman a starter this year.

With the amount of rehab you go through with Tommy John, I doubt his arm will ever be as strong as it is right now.

After last nights start I think he has 4th best ERA on his own team. The Nat's have a solid starting unit. I say if he's not feeling pain to keep pitching but maybe his last couple outings were physical and the club is using mental as an excuse to why he didn't pitch as well.

Great in theory, but in sports the future is now when you are in position to bring home the title... especially in baseball. Bottom line is they had no idea they were going to be as good as they were so sitting Strausburg would not be that big of an issue. They are educated guesses and recommendations but I do not think it is as definitive as 2 + 2 = 4. Every variable from the make-up of the person, throwing motions, etc. come in to play. With my discussions with Rizzo, he will tell you the same thing. It is an arbitrary number.

You can't compare Votto's salary to what Strasburg is going to get. 11 of the top 25 salaries are pitchers and he'll be right in the mix. Plus, Strasburg's agent is Boras.

Sure you can. Strasburg's contract when he enters free agency will be around the same as what Votto got. He can't make too much more.
