Somerset 17 Hazard 9

Featured Replies

Final from Somerset. Somerset scored 14 first quarter points and made them stand up. The Briar Jumpers are 3-0.

Both Defenses played pretty well tonight. Somerset with VERY conservative play calls in the second half.

Congratulations to Somerset; about the way I expected this one to go.

Nice win for the Jumpers. This is a great matchup that I would like to see every year. I'd bet there was a large crowd, right?

Does anyone have any stats? Didn't Hazard fumble away a couple of chances in the first half?

Both teams fumbled. Hazard was stripped on the first drive. Then Somerset botched a snap/hand off. Hazard later stripped the ball away on a play. What I'm getting to is that some of the turnovers were unforced but most of them were forced turnovers where the D made plays on the ball.

One play that I didn't understand...SHS punts to HHS two men deep. Deep man on the far right calls for a fair catch but the man on the left doesn't, ball hits in front of the man on the left and bounces up he catches it then gets hit and drops the ball SHS picks it up and starts to run it in and play is blown dead.

There is no fair catch on a ball after it hits the ground is there? Doesn't the player getting the ball have to call his own fair catch?

It looked to me as if the man calling for the fair catch was trying to fake defenders into coming to his side of the field, which is fine, so the other returner would be able to get the ball and take off the other way.

I think the crew just booted this call. HHS got the ball back, but if it was because of a fair catch on a bouncing ball shouldn't Somerset have been called for an infraction for running into the receiver and knocking the ball loose? But again the kid that picked the ball up never called for fair catch and after the play he started pointing to the other deep man that did call for it.

Oh well this was a good game to watch, big plays, hard hits and plays made on special teams. I think both teams have a bright future.

JD any team member can give a valid fair catch signal no matter who catches the ball. Once the ball hits the ground the protection goes away but once the ball is secure the play is blown dead.

Thanks for the explanation!

I have it from a good source, the contracts will be signed for another 2 years.

I too figured this one would be close and though I wanted Hazard to win, I did not pick them.

Both these teams will make good runs in there respective classes..May see both in BGreen even.

2 very good Football Teams. Somerset's Def. was the difference in the game. Lot's of hard hit's and pass break up's. Fun to Watch.
