I'd give Dixie's QB a LOT of credit for his effort play after play. Their O-line just wasn't there.

I can tell you how this happens, kids that live in Dixie's district go to Catholic schools like Cov Cath and/or transfer to schools like Beechwood or Highlands. The size of the school is not a good comparison anymore.

Truthfully, they are sounding better and better each year out.

 

Now, they are not up to the standards of a Boone County or Beechwood but their getting better.....

Quarterback Blake Bir tied a Covington Catholic single-game record for passing touchdowns and also set the career mark on a day when the Colonels' defense posted its second consecutive shutout.

 

 

It all came together Saturday during a 54-0 victory against visiting Dixie Heights.

 

"We played well on both sides of the football," Bir said. "The defense was great."

 

And so was Bir.

 

From the first passing score to the last, it was a record-setting performance for the senior. Bir's first touchdown, on a 49-yard opening-quarter completion to Ethan Egbers, broke Adam McCormack's all-time mark of 53, set in 1989-92. His sixth, a 39-yard third-quarter pass to Evan Braun, tied McCormack's game record which was set in 1992 and equaled in 2006 by Josh Bleser.

 

"The most exciting thing is, it validates his hard work," CovCath coach David Wirth said of his quarterback. "We ask a lot of these kids and we have a lot of guys who can handle that pressure but Blake is at the top of the list."

Dixie is playing a lot of young kids they will take their lumps this year but be a better team next year.

 

Provided they don't jump to BWood or SK. Man, I knew they would take some lumps but not even 30 yards of offense? I don't want to take anything away from CovCath's great effort, but wow, sounds like the Red Colonels got steam-rolled and then just had no desire to try to make it somewhat of a game.

It is a LOT of concern but you have to give the CovCath defense credit for the TOTAL domination.

They didn't quit, they didn't cry, they played like young men who indeed were physically overwhelmed by a much better opponent but they played and they tried and when they get older, bigger more experience, they will get better.

I did not mean this to smart. I believe CovCath's faithful had higher expectations. I'd like to think DHHS faithful has higher expectations.
