Ok, I get that NKY is in the 9th Region (I have seen a list of schools on the KHSAA website). It is made up of all kinds of different sized schools. Then there is a breakdown into Districts. I heard someone tell me

there is also a conference? The NKAC? Is there a website or anything for this. How do you know who is in who's conference? Is this based on geography or size of school or what? Any clarification or direction would be much appreciated!

I believe almost every team in N. Ky., not just the 9th region, is in the N. Ky. Athletic Conference. They have 3 divisions broken down by size. The main significance IMO is scheduling. By having the conference teams have the bulk of their schedule set for them. I don't know about a website. Google it.

Thanks. I did google it. The website I found gave no meaningful info. I would think something that big would have a website. All the Ohio conferences have websites with schedules, stats, awards, and so forth...

Honestly the conference means very little. Winning it doesn't hurt nor help.

Actually some of the schools are in the 10th region and some are in the 8th too. It took me a while to figure it all out, too. I still have a hard time with why the three Kenton county schools are in 3 different regions.

So basically it just gives you some schools you are supposed to play, but really doesn't mean anything. It is all about the Districts over there right?

 

(Basketball and Baseball) Winning your District Games during the regular season gets you a better seed and thus a easier 1st round game (or that is how it's suppose to work)! In a district where there are four teams, the #1 seed will play the #4 seed and the #2 seed will play the #3 seed but both the champion and the runner-up advance to the Region! Once you make it to the Region, it's either win, or go home and that includes the State Tourney.

 

So in summary, going 30-0 during the regular season would mean you would get the #1 seed in your District and in a four team district you would play the #4 seed, BUT if you lose that first round District Tourney game, that wonderful 30-0 record means nothing, as your season is done that night even though your 30-1!

 

Oh I forgot to mention some district like the 36th the regular season means nothing at all, as the District is seed by the virtue of the luck of the draw out of a hat! (I believe their are only maybe 4/5 district that do this in the entire Commonwealth)

 

Funny but I never think of our area as over there, but as Northern Kentucky or just Kentucky!

I honestly and truthfully believe it will change in the next couple of years with either all the schools from Campbell County moving into the 10th or all of the schools in Boone County moving into the 8th!

I have no official or unofficial knowledge of any inside information or even juicy rumors, but just wonder this question. If this realignment did actually come about, do you think there could also be some significant shuffling of teams from within a good number of the districts? For instance dealing some southern/western schools, like the Oldham schools going to Louisville and some other teams being included in the 8th from NKY area or possibly from Franklin county or Scott county? Nothing like some summertime speculation to spark up some interest.

Indeed it will force a move/shift in all the Regions, unless the rest of the Commonwealth is willing to have (and it's a real possibility) of having five teams in the Sweet Sixteen from Jefferson and Kenton Counties!

Everyone on here defends it and says "well, that's the way it's set up" So, if the state re-aligns the 8th, 9th, and 10th and it happens to spread out the talented Kenton Co teams where more of them have a chance to go, I say good. They deserve to go.

 

And as usual, my fix for all of this is . . . . add at large bids for volleyball and basketball (and all of the rest of the sports while we're at it.) 16 regional winners and 8 at large bids to include more teams from the deeper regions - makes it an exciting 24 team tourney. Longer tourney, more teams and interest, and more $$$ for the KHSAA. win-win-win for all.
