Facebook friend criteria

No, Facebook is most certainly is not a place for rude contradiction. It is not meant to be nothing but a debate forum. A person's Facebook page is whatever they decide it to be. It is their own area, to do with and control as they please. If you want to debate someone, take it to a forum designed for that purpose. I think it's just rude to get on someone's wall and belittle or contradict their opinion. If you want to debate, do it peoperly.

Who said anything about being rude? Simply disagreeing with someone's opinion isn't being rude.

Pretty simple really, you don't like what someone comments on your wall post, delete it. You have that ability. You don't want to have people post comments, don't make posts.

True. The way I look at it, if they didn't want interaction with me, why'd they "friend" me in the first place? I would say that of the friends I have, 90% of them sent me the friend request.

As a result, if someone removes something that I post just because it isn't nice and pretty and what they wanted me to say, then I'm finished with them as a FB friend and probably in real life, too. I don't expect everyone to agree with me about things, but if you want to silence me, then just do it by a lack of interaction at all.

The entire site is oriented around interaction and discussion, thus the "social" in "social media."
Guess you don't understand the concept behind being "social."

I know. That's what I say too. But that's kind of where this whole thing got started. It seems Habib thinks Facebook is where you go to rip on your friends' opinions.

See, I think it is actually rude to get on someone's personal page and contradict them. If a person wouldn't do that in face to face conversation (and most wouldn't) they shouldn't do it in the online version of "face to face" conversation. I guess I just see social media as an extension of polite society -- more "social" than "media."

And I'm not talking about trivial things like "Coke vs. Pepsi," "Skyline vs. Gold Star" or other matters of preference. I'm talking about deeply held personal convictions on matters of great importance.

And Birdsfan thinks Facebook is where you go to promote narcissism.

And notice I posted that here at BGP and not FB because I don't wanted to get deleted from your FB Friends.

I think for me the problem is when people are trying to spread misinformation, either innocently or purposefully. I speak up. I bring facts into the situation. I say the same things that I would say in someone's presence. I'd just prefer someone delete me as a friend if they don't want me to be strong enough to risk the friendship by disagreeing with them. I never have been nor will I ever be a "yes gal."

I would never do that. Well...unless you said you like Skyline and Pepsi.

How about Dixie and Coke?

I can understand being frustrated by misinformation. I'm just more inclined to (try to) hold my tongue in that situation. I think keeping the friendship is more important than making a point, and in the process, possibly making that person look bad.

BF, as my longtime FB friend and texting buddy, if I say something wrong I want you to tell me. If I look bad, well, it's better than looking stupid by not knowing that I said something wrong. Could I get mad? It could happen...but eventually I cool off and come to my senses. :taz:

I found out last night a friend had defriended me on facebook. I went to send them a message to invite them to a cookout and it said on their page, add as friend............................needless to say I didn't invite them to the cookout, lol.
