July 3, 201214 yr Were Gonna Groove In My Time Of Dying How Many More Times When The Levee Breaks No Quarter Ten Years Gone Song Remains The Same Dazed and Confused Gallows Pole Going to California
July 3, 201214 yr That's one I wouldn't have expected to see make a top ten list. Interesting choice :thumb: And You Shook Me...great showcase of JPJ's skills on the organ (and keyboard). I can't believe how often he gets completely overlooked. Down By The Seaside, and I can't really say why, has always been a solid favorite of mine. I don't know if it's the tremolo effect, the high falsetto vocals or what, but in the end the song just makes me feel good. Totally agree about John Paul Jones.
July 3, 201214 yr Owing to other interests, the songs that hold some connection with the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien hold a special meaning for me and I love listening to them: Ramble On (this is definitely one that would make my list from a strictly musical standpoint) The Battle of Evermore Misty Mountain Hop Stairway to Heaven
July 3, 201214 yr Author Ben Harper used to work in a great version of Whole Lotta Love in the middle of his song Faded if you ever saw him live. I'm pretty sure they included a live version of it on his Live From Mars album. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit also used to work the No Quarter breakdown riff into their song Try live. Here's a great live version of it. No Quarter pops in around the 5:45 minute mark. [video=youtube;B7DPRu2WQ-Q]
July 3, 201214 yr Tool has an amazing version of No Quarter. Not many bands should even attempt to cover Zep, they are one of the few that can nail it. [video=youtube_share;iNUq-JSXvS4]
July 3, 201214 yr Author No Bron Y Aur? The 2 minute instrumental? I like it, don't get me wrong, but how can you go for an unaccompanied acoustic guitar instrumental on your top ten when you're completely benching Plant's vocals, JPJ's bass and keys, and Bonzo's drums? That's like the talking about the Big Red Machine and only mentioning Joe Morgan and Ken Griffey.
