Transitioning from youth football to High School, is self interest the only concern?

I fail to see how they would owe them anything. The kids are individuals, not the property of the schools or even the school districts.

Of course to be fair, the very concept of "feeder schools" was foreign to me until I was on here.

...and if it's my program, then I'm happy to see them bail. I don't want a kid like that poisoning the water at my school.

At issue is the PARENTS, not the kid.

Those programs are not in Kenton County. Dixie and Simon are devastated by Beechwood and Cov. Cath annually.

To clarify, you're saying kids are playing in the Dixie/Simon Kenton feeder systems, and then they are leaving to play high school ball at Beechwood or Cov Cath in numbers that are "devastating" to Simon Kenton and Dixie?

Okay...then I don't want to be putting up with parents like that either. I'd be disappointed, sure, but you move on and focus on your other players.

In terms of numbers of impact players, DEFINITELY.

I agree with your point, however, imagine if that one player was Travis Elliot or Miles Simpson. The last 4 years at Ryle or SK would be a lot different and Highlands KY HS win streak would still be intact. Public school programs are not like the independent and privates where they are 3 or 4 deep at every position. One skill player can make a huge impact, and oh by the way, the school administration may not agree on the need to say no to a parent.

I'm not telling you that it doesn't happen or hasn't happened, but I'd like to see some concrete numbers on how many impact players have left the Simon Kenton and Dixie feeder programs and ended up at Cov Cath and Beechwood. (By "impact players", I'm assuming you mean starters - more than likely the two or three year variety.)

Stuff happens and you have to deal. I've seen some real football talents leave Cov Cath over the years for other schools (Mike Mitchell, Justin Frisk, David Neff, Brad Blackwell, Brett Blackwell, Andy Schneider), and it's disappointing, but you just have to shrug it off and move on.

Unless those schools release student addresses, which they won't, that would be hard to quantify. If you are a Cov Cath Colonel, why don't you check it out yourself? See how many kids have Independence of Erlanger addresses.

This is really the heart of the issue Clyde. Its about attempting to extort demands from the program (School , coach or administrator) on behalf of a kid. When parents can't accept no for an answer , they bail.

Let 'em go. You can't have parents running the show.

If you are not committed to that high school, is it really your program?

The "my" referred to the high school coach overseeing the youth program.

I don't deny that Cov Cath has kids come from the cities of Independence or Erlanger, or that some of those kids play football, or that some of those kids have started. What I was questioning was how many of those kids started out in Simon Kenton/Dixie's football feeder programs and left for Cov Cath (or Beechwood). I was honestly sort of expecting to get some kind of actual number from you too, since you were saying that the Simon Kenton and Dixie programs had been devastated by this effect...

So having a coach of a feeder program in which is supported by a high school chooses to take his own kids elsewhere, which triggers even more defections because of his influence, presents no ethical conflict for any of you?????

What kind of support is given by the high school?

Coaches showing up for games and practices. Access to school facilities for games and practices. Fundraising support.

The high school coaches coach the youth or they just attend?
