I know a lot of programs that will tolerate back to back district championships and a class a regional championship. I get your point that the talent on this team may allow them to achieve at a much higher level. School teams come from different perspectives. I think eminence would take those results in any sport. I'm not aware of Grant County's girls' basketball ever achieving at the level of a school with 1100 kids. I could go on with examples. If a school likes you as a teacher, they may tolerate less than stellar coaching in order to have a happy teacher. I would hate to lose a quality teacher over firing them as a coach. I don't know that this is the case at GC, but if I were a principal, I would be first concerned with education and secondly, sports.

I've been following the Gallatin program for 45 years and never can I recall a coach in any sport being terminated or forced to resign because of a losing record. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

After reading your post I decided to do some homework and check out Gallatins previous season records. I am even more amazed than I first thought. Up to 2010 when this group of girls would have started playing as a group and had what looks to be the first winning season ever, Gallatin had only 17 wins and 87 losses in 8 years. What is more troubling is that 1 season there were only 6 season games played total! The most being 18 played in '07. How was that never brought up to be a title 9 issue considering the baseball team played a whole lot more games. I could not find records for '99-'01. Since posting on this thread, I have heard privately from many BGP members who are more familiar with the program than I and have been told that there have been many complaints throughout the years and feel they have just been told what they wanted to hear and nothing is ever done in the longterm about the situation. It would kind of make someone look pretty silly to complain about the situation with all of their team accomplishments to people who dont know the game and seem to be content with what is going on because it does not involve their kids. While I completely agree that academics should come first and foremost in every school system, I understand that no one had asked in their complaints for her to be terminated in her teaching job. I do understand what was said about Dorothy Perkins having some losing seasons in her coaching career and that having some talent can also help any coach win games, but, there has also been plenty of talent who has left the program throughout the years. These kids play with heart and want to be coached, just watch them play. I have seen this scenario play out when my daughter played softball in high school and I hate to see any kids have to go through it because it is truly miserable for all involved.I think there can be lots of made excuses but none can seem to refute the facts.

I have read the thread and re-read the thread, I don't recall anyone stepping up and saying that GC has a great coach. My point is it is a school team, and not every school has the luxury of having quality coaching candidates. Gallatin is a poor, rural district. Their pay scale is not going to encourage people to leave their current job to come to Gallatin. Most of their good coaches are home grown. Perkins, Jones, Roberts, and Alexander are homegrown talent. Realistically, who can afford to drive from out of the county with today's gas prices and be a softball coach for the pay they are going to receive? Historically, you can get a good young coach, that will use you as a springboard to a better job, and then, he/she leaves and there is no one left to coach your kids and build a program. School teams are not on an even playing field. Pay, resources, feeder programs, quality of youth instruction, quality of coaches, etc are probably bigger factors to success than the number of kids in a school. Look at the programs at Gallatin or most small schools, local grown coaches make them good. WV is very lucky to have Johnny Anderson. His kids or relatives are in the program, so he will devote more time and energy than most people. He is knowledgable because his Dad was a legend at fast pitch softball. This has been a long post and I have rambled, I do not disagree with your assessment, I'm not sure I agree that GC should fire a coach, I don't think they have that luxury.

While I agree with almost every point you have made,my original post said that I thought she should resign for the sake of the girls, though there are those who believe she should be fired. I do disagree with the fact that there is no one in the system who would want the job because I have talked to some GC employees who ARE "homegrown" and would LOVE to have the job, though they are aware the Coach seems to have a lifetime contract. They are ambitious, competitive, and would not be too full of themselves to ask for help if they needed it. Gallatins parents should fight for their girls and get them the respect they are deserving of. If they don't then shame on them for allowing the administration to fail them.

I wasn't aware of qualified people standing in line. Perhaps my opinion is wrong then.

I don't really know the Gallatin history, but my guess is the previous years did not have either the quality or quantity of players to play a 30+ game season. Scheduling a demanding schedule without the athletes (and resources) is a recipe for disaster. Coach Edmondson stuck with the team through the lean years I think she deserves the opportunity to enjoy the good times as well.

How do you know she got all she could out of the girls, from what I am hearing the practices were real bad along with some other things. My guess is they won the all "A" and their district bc they had better players. They have at least 4 girls that are real good.

 

That being said I don't know her and I haven't seen her coach so as far as deserving to stay or needing to go I have no clue.

The pitcher graduates in 2014 and the catcher in 2013.

Hitters 1-5 are now junior, sophomore, junior, senior, junior for the 2013 season.
